Job Title: Youth Advocate
Program: Prevention Services
FLSA Status: Hourly, non-exempt
Job Summary:
The YA works under the supervision of the Prevention Services Director. The YA is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive program of youth development services to children, youth and families at community and school sites, and at YSB programs, including youth centers in Bellefonte and Snow Shoe, outreach sites throughout the county, in the schools, and residential programs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists with the development, implementation and maintenance of youth development programming in order to provide children, youth, and families with opportunities for drug and alcohol abuse education, prevention, and intervention, violence prevention and other interpersonal skill development.
2. Transports youth to activities, field trips, and between centers and SOP sites.
3. Assists with all aspects of the smooth running of the Bellefonte Youth Center and Mountaintop Youth Center.

•provides other youth development activities including literacy improvement, interpersonal and life skills development, and community volunteering activities
•prepares snacks and meals
•maintains cleanliness of center and completes maintenance log as needed
4. Provides evidence-based and other programs to youth through school presentations, health classes, small group sessions, and through our community outreach and after-school programs. These groups will provide information and activities on drug and alcohol prevention, bullying prevention, and improving social and decision-making skills.
5. Assures that information collecting and record-keeping requirements are met, that outcome-based evaluation is conducted, and that required monthly reports are prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
6. Provides community education concerning program services through the distribution of public relations materials and public presentations on the program to educators, youth group leaders and community groups.
7. Maintains interagency linkages and cooperative relationships among youth serving organizations and networking with local businesses, churches or other community groups who provide support for the program.
8. Participates in staff meetings, required training and supervisory sessions.
Job Requirements:
1. Job related background and preparation:
Position requires high school diploma or GED and two years of experience working with children, youth, and families, the ability to work effectively with groups of children, youth, and families, and the ability to work independently. The YA needs to be or become certified in Standard First Aid and CPR.
2. Physical demands/working conditions:
Job requires work to be performed in a well-lighted, heated and cooled two-story building; job requires travel between different locations serving as the youth program site, including but not limited to youth centers, schools, outdoor sites in designated outreach areas and neighborhoods, and field trips. Sometimes staff are required to work outside in inclement weather. Job requires ability to communicate orally and in writing, to participate in recreational activities with youth, and to perform CPR. Job requires the ability to drive and transport clients. Staff member must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, talk, hear, write and drive in order to meet the physical demands of the position.
3. Work schedule:
Position requires working primarily during the after-school and evening hours with some weekend hours.
4. Supervision received:
Position requires that the person be self-motivated and able to work without close supervision and with knowledge of work standards and ethics. Position is supervised by the Prevention Services Director.
5. Supervision given:
Position requires supervision of children and youth participating in programming, as well as volunteers.
6. Complexity:
Position requires consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in problem analysis; position requires the ability to make independent judgments to assure timely and professional services to children, youth and families.
7. Interpersonal contacts:
Position requires effective and professional interaction and communication with co-workers, clients, and outside agency personnel.
8. Responsibility for confidential matters:
Position requires knowledge of confidential client information, which must be protected from unauthorized disclosure; position requires strict adherence to agency policies and practices regarding confidentiality.
9. Responsibilities for actions:
Position requires following professional and ethical client practices and maintaining program standards. Errors in judgment or practice could result in unsatisfactory circumstances for children, youth, families and/or volunteers. The position also requires adherence to strict confidentiality of client, volunteer and employee information. Errors or lack of attendance to these responsibilities could result in embarrassment, loss of funds, loss of respect for the agency, disciplinary action up to and including termination and/or legal action.
10. Other:
Job requires transportation and auto insurance to limits recommended by the Board of Directors.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
