Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 - Commerce - Natural Resources - Upshur Co.

Wildlife/WV State Wildlife Center/Upshur County Under the direction of the Wildlife Center Biologist and Fish and Wildlife Technician 2, the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 performs semi-technical assistance in duties that include, but are not limited to, mowing of grass; cutting of brush; pick-up and removal of trash; maintenance and repair of buildings; maintenance, repair, and operation of vehicles; lawn and farm equipment; and maintenance and repair of other Wildlife Center facilities, including animal exhibits, storage buildings, slaughter room, picnic area, residence, fish ponds, wastewater treatment ponds, and walking trails.
Duties also include: Care for and feeding animals; processing of deer for animal consumption; and ordering appropriate quantities of animal feed. Work requires frequent hands-on contact with a variety of animals, including some that are large and potentially dangerous. Must possess a knowledge of animal husbandry principles and practices. Must possess organizational skills and an ability to maintain standards of appearance appropriate for a high visibility, high use public area. Must possess a working knowledge of farm and lawn maintenance equipment, vehicles, and power tools.
Must possess good communication skills for providing guided tours, responding to nuisance wildlife situations, representing the Wildlife Center at local fairs and festivals, representing the Division of Natural Resources during National Hunting and Fishing Day activities, and other outreach activities as assigned. Employee may assist with other agency projects such as collection of biological data and other surveys. Employee is responsible for training and overseeing any summer tour guide, interns, or student volunteers. Employee is responsible for assigning daily tasks/maintenance for seasonal laborers. Employee is responsible for helping maintain accurate records of diets, schedules, or abnormal behaviors of the animals with the Wildlife Center Biologist and other technicians. Employee must attend agency required meetings and perform weekend, holiday, and overnight travel duties as assigned. Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Training: High school diploma or equivalent.
AND
Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in fish or wildlife management, fish culture or agriculture. Special Requirement: A valid driver's license is required.

Pay: $25,073.00 - $46,385.00 per year
