Who are we looking for?
Align Civil Engineering Consultants (Align) is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a Survey Crew Chief. Ideally, this candidate has at least two years of land surveying or construction experience. In this role, you will travel to a variety of job sites and help execute land surveys for the development of new roads, neighborhoods, municipal infrastructure, parks, trails, and other community projects. This position will be based out of Align’s Indianapolis, Indiana office.
What are the responsibilities and roles of this position?
As a Survey Crew Chief at Align, you would be responsible for leading field activities, and completing survey projects of varying sizes and complexity. The Crew Chief leads ALTA / NSPS Land Title Surveys, Aviation, Boundary, Horizontal & Vertical Control, Linear Route Surveys, and Topographic Surveys. Crew Chiefs are expected to
Ensure field data is collected accurately and on time
- Understand project scopes and explain them to field technicians
- Lead, mentor, and train field technicians on equipment and field procedures
- Carry out quality control protocols during data collection
- Monitor the safety and handling of field equipment
- Be honest and accept accountability for the work performed by your team
- Maintain a positive attitude with co-workers and the public
What are the required qualifications for this role?
- Previous experience utilizing conventional equipment, data collection, robotic total stations, and Trimble GPS is preferred
- Ability to read road / bridge plans and interpret deeds
- An associate's degree is preferred but not required.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in route / topographic projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must be able to work outdoors performing physical labor in all seasons
- Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds minimum
- Valid U.S. driver's license

This job will primarily be located on job sites in the Central, Indiana Region
