The Buyer/Planner develops and provides strategic supply direction and leads planning, negotiations and purchased material life cycle management for all assigned categories. This role serves as a knowledge base for supplier capabilities and as a liaison for new technologies and emerging market opportunities within our industry.
The Buyer/Planner is responsible to support production with an uninterrupted supply of raw materials and finished components while maintaining appropriate inventory levels. This role will work cross functionally to plan and execute timely delivery of purchased materials, advise on supply risk and appropriate inventory levels, improve supplier performance, and maintain ERP data throughout the product life cycle.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management
- APICS Certification or ISM Certification (Preferred)
- 3 years of working experience in buying, material planning, inventory management
- Experience with ERP Systems, Material Requirements Planning (MRP), and Kanban Systems
- Manufacturing experience (Preferred)
- Excellent team orientation, verbal/written communication skillset, and analytical skillset
- Critical thinking, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to multi-task
- Ability to provide and accept clear feedback, to prioritize projects and tasks, and to execute ongoing updates
- Demonstrated computer proficiency, including NetSuite (Preferred), Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- A proactive work ethic with a willingness to grow, learn, and improve
- Occasionally moving and lifting objects up to 40 pounds
- May require travel – 15%
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops and provides strategic supply direction for all assigned material categories. Defines and provides supply strategies and programs that provide significant and innovative total cost improvement. Plans for and facilitates contract negotiations for assigned categories. Gathers supply base book of knowledge and communicates new technologies and emerging market opportunities in the industry.
- Develops, maintains, and manages a world class supply base. Leads and actively develops supplier partnerships that support continuous improvement in total cost, quality and delivery. Ensures uninterrupted supply of materials to support production plans. Establishes preferred suppliers and conducts quarterly reviews to maintain a leveraged and right-sized supply base.
- Ensures an uninterrupted supply of materials and maintains appropriate inventory levels. Conducts demand reviews for raw and finished parts, issues Request for Quotes, places time-sensitive PO’s and maintains accurate data and pricing in our Enterprise Resource Planning system. Manages related engineering changes/material deviations/purchase order revisions. Coordinate deliveries/pick-ups with logistics team and related suppliers. Creates spreadsheets and reports related to requirements, inventories, and schedule performance. Coordinates PO deposits/prepayments to suppliers with Finance/Accounting and works to resolve invoice and payment issues in a timely manner.
- Maintains continuous performance improvement measures. Aligns expenditures with established supply base performance objectives. Assists suppliers with problem resolution and monitors effective and prompt corrective action closure. Leads and tracks cooperative cost savings initiatives. Identifies and reports potential significant business transition needs to management. Suggest improvements for the ERP system and buying/planning processes.
- Supports engineering and technical teams. Establishes and aligns supplier deliverables with product development and launch activities. Provides preliminary cost estimates as needed and promotes plans to standardize and maximize technical value of materials and components. Assists in the continued enhancement of Roll and Hill’s specification standards and specifications. Support the entire product life cycle with focused effort placed on introduction, growth, and phase out. Includes planning the final purchases and inventory depletions.
- Communicates and partners with cross functional departments. Actively looks for ways to develop cooperative relationships and achieve synergies between Supply Management and other key functional areas including customer service, sales, finance, quality, design, production, warehousing, receiving, logistics and suppliers. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of supply management programs, polices and concepts.
- Get results in critical areas. Demonstrates a sense of urgency. Assumes responsibility and champions new ideas and initiatives. Considers existing systems and works to improve them. Is creative and believes there is a solution for every problem and works to discover it.
