Position Title: Junior Accountant
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Manager
Status: Full-time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Compensation: $50,000-$65,000 (based on education and experience)
The Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Accounting Manager in the efficient and accurate management of the company's financial operations. This includes overseeing various accounting functions, such as accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, payroll, compliance, and general ledger management. The Junior Accountant must ensure compliance with accounting principles and standards and provide excellent service to internal and external customers. The role requires strong organizational and time-management skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable
- Process invoices and vendor payments
- Reconcile vendor statements
- Issue customer invoices
- Collect and apply customer payments
- Maintain accurate records of AP/AR transactions
- Purchase order fulfillment (AMEX Request Processing)
Financial Reporting
- Generate ad-hoc financial reports as needed
- Gasoline Usage reporting
- Utilization Reporting
General Ledger
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare journal entries
- Ensure proper recording of transactions
Payroll
- Assist in processing bi-weekly and monthly payroll
- Verify accuracy of timekeeping records
- Calculate and record payroll taxes and deductions
Compliance
- Assist with year-end audits and tax reporting
Other Duties
- Assist with special projects as assigned
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records
- Respond to accounting-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
- Continuously identify and implement process improvements
- Assist with general administrative duties such as answering phones, scheduling meetings, taking minutes, and calendar coordination
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
- 2+ years of relevant experience in accounting
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting software
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
- Experience in the engineering/ construction industry
- Knowledge of GAAP and other accounting principles
- Advanced proficiency in Excel
