The Department of General Services' Fleet Management Division is responsible for the overall administration of a fleet of over 5,600 pieces of motorized equipment that are used by 29 City Agencies and entities. Our team of highly-trained Automotive Maintenance Workers perform safety checks on diesel, "heavy" truck and cars by assisting mechanics in performing installation, maintenance and repair work on heavy trucks and cars. The types of vehicles include "heavy" trucks like fire trucks, snow plows, large trash trucks, Inner Harbor water skimmers, police patrol cars, lawn mowers, and many more. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work shift and weekend work and are subject to call-back. Work is performed in an automotive shop where dirty, greasy shop conditions and fumes are regularly encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion. The central Garage is located at the George L. Winfield Fleet Maintenance Facility (at 3800 East Biddle Street) and at several substations throughout the City.
Selection Process

Minimum Qualifications
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EXPERIENCE: Have one (1) year of experience in heavy truck, diesel and automotive maintenance or repair work.
OR
NOTES (EQUIVALENCIES): Have completion of one year of the required coursework in an automotive mechanic curriculum in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND CERTIFICATIONS: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
