SUMMARY:
The Lead Childcare Worker ensures the safety, care, and supervision at the Crisis Nursery. They are responsible for coordinating the direct care operations during the shift and is the main communication link to the Site Supervisor or On-Call Manager. Responsible for coordinating program intakes and discharges. Supports the development and implementation of age-appropriate activities for the children. Adheres to Community Care Licensing regulations and health and safety practices while ensuring that agency program standards in the operation and care of children are upheld.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides shift supervision and is responsible for total care of children.
- Plays an integral role in ensuring that Nursery program outcomes and key performance indicators are met.
- Adheres to the daily schedule—plans activities, leads group activities, participates in activities and guides childcare workers and volunteers.
- Assures all childcare needs are met, including medication administration.
- Oversees family/caregiver visits ensuring that interactions with children are supportive.
- Constantly monitors and maintains the cleanliness and safety of the interior and exterior of the building.
- Reviews and completes written documentation per program requirements, and in compliance with agency policies and licensing regulations.
- Responsible for maintaining the care calendar, scheduling safe stays, and calling clients.
- Conducts admission and discharge meetings with families.
- Prepares meals and snacks, maintains the meal and snack calendar.
- Accept responsibility for performance of staff and volunteers during assigned shifts.
- Ensure that the Nursery is well stocked with supplies.
- Stays alert to physical and emotional changes and responsive to the needs of infants and children.
- Supports the social-emotional development and needs of infants and children.
- Engages in child-directed play with young children.
- Encourages children to help in cleaning up play areas and bedrooms according to their capabilities.
- Assists with providing positive guidance and implementing positive discipline techniques.
- Provides personal care services to children—bathing, clothing, brushing teeth and hair, etc.
- Follow the guidance of the Lead Childcare Worker and adhere to the daily schedule.
- Provides First Aid when needed.
- When interacting with volunteers, clients, donors, and the general public represent the Nursery’s values of non-judgment, kindness, and showing compassion.
- Greets volunteers and community members with respect, ensuring they experience the Nursery as a place where their work is appreciated and needed.
- Respect and celebrate the diversity of our clients, coworkers, and community.
- Other duties as needed or requested.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- While lead on shift, provides direction to other lead childcare workers, childcare workers, and volunteers, leading team activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Must have completed 12 postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units, with a passing grade, as determined by institution. Classes must have a focus on Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Child Health at an accredited college or university. At least 3 semester units, or equivalent quarter units, shall include coursework in the care of infants.
- 1 year of experience in a position providing direct care of children in a licensed group home or professional childcare setting.
- Excellent listening skills and an engaging demeanor.
- Decisiveness, patience, and stamina to chase after, lift, or carry children.
- Record of TB test and ability to pass a background check, physical.
- Exceptional communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of stages of childhood development.
- Attentiveness to the needs and safety of children.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
