REPORTS TO: Manager/Bartender
Only the Manager has the authority to take employment actions with a Barback.
POSITION SUMMARY: Generally, the Barback’s primary responsibility is to assist in the inventory, supply controls and preparation of all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in the bar and storage areas in accordance with operational guidelines. Barbacks are responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of liquor, mixes, and other bar supplies, including glassware, straws, condiments, etc. prior to and during each shift. The Barback cleans up after guests leave the bar area, and may serve food to guests seated at the bar. Barbacks may also check identification of guests in the bar area, to ensure they meet the minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcohol and tobacco products. Each Barback must become thoroughly familiar with the procedural and technical details of BORN AND RAISED professional and accommodating service including: bar and menu items; promotions, events and specials; handling special requests; appearance standards; and effective guest interactions.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position does not have accountability with respect to operational decision-making, but does make a number of decisions while accommodating guests to meet BORN AND RAISED expectations for professional, friendly, and high quality service. The Barback position is held accountable for failure to deliver timely, quality and professional service or for failure to satisfy a guest’s reasonable service requests. The Barback is expected to recognize potential intoxicated, disruptive or undesirable guests and notify a Bartender and/or Manager for assistance with such guests. Further, the Barback is expected to seek assistance from a Manager to resolve any difficult, complex or uncompromising situation with guests and/or co-workers. Ability to accurately and efficiently handle large amounts of cash and perform duties of the bartenders as needed throughout the shift.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

Shows confidence, energy, and enthusiasm with a professional, clean appearance, and a friendly, helpful, approachable demeanor.

Legal age to serve alcoholic beverages.

Completed some professional beverage service training.

Satisfactory physical and mental health to perform the requirements of the job, and to work with the public in compliance with applicable foodservice health and safety regulations.

Able to perform the essential functions of the assigned position with or without reasonable accommodation, to meet BORN AND RAISED service and operations standards within company policies and procedures.

Be available and willing to work all scheduled shifts, including working weekends and holidays.

Working knowledge of liquors, cocktails, aperitifs, mixes and drink recipes to adequately explain to guests and make drink suggestions.

Capable of multi-tasking, leading and communicating with others, able to express and exchange ideas in spoken and written English.

Basic familiarity with computers, POS systems, calculators and touch screens.

Basic math skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Obtain and maintain any required certification necessary to serve alcohol or work in food and beverage establishments as required by local regulations.

Ensure that the appropriate levels of beverage inventory, stemware, fruits, supplies, and other stock are in place behind the bars prior to beginning of each shift, during each shift and stocked at end of each shift.

Clean bar and lounge area prior to and after each shift in preparation for the next service.

Able to stand and walk for up to eight (8) hours during a shift (with limited breaks); carry up to 100 lbs. without assistance; exert up to 150 lbs. of force without straining; and sustain repetitive motions of legs, feet, waist, back, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and fingers.

Ensure the proper usage of equipment, tools and service equipment in bar area.

Keep the inventories and stock of all bar materials and supplies organized and tidy.

Observe and maintain daily condition of all physical facilities and equipment in the bar area, restrooms and public areas and make recommendations for corrections and improvement as needed.

Demonstrate knowledge of all bar and food menu items to assist guests in their selections, using informed, tantalizing descriptions and effective selling techniques.

Maintain guest experience by communicating effectively with Bartenders and Servers, timely inquiry of their needs, removing food and drinks as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling glasses, being alert to spills and general tidiness of bar and lounge areas.

Consistently and sufficiently meet BORN AND RAISED standards for dependable and enthusiastic service in a confident, well-spoken and succinct manner.

Demonstrate effective teamwork and cooperation with co-workers, management, vendors and/or suppliers; including ordering and maintaining an inventory of liquor, mixes, and other bar supplies; acquiring taxi service for guests; communicating with valet service; and contacting security, police or outside emergency assistance when needed.

Comply with all of BORN AND RAISED employment related policies and procedures.

Gracefully manage expectations of multiple parties at the same time without sacrificing quality, attitude or negatively affecting any guest’s experience.

Demonstrate knowledge of BORN AND RAISED including ownership, history, locations, service and meal hours, frequent guest benefits and events.

Be dressed in proper uniform and acceptable footwear, ready to begin at start of all scheduled shifts, and work until the end of scheduled shifts, unless authorized by management for approved shift or work schedule change.

Maintain reliable transportation to get to work on time.

Perform other duties as assigned, such as side-work, cleaning and maintaining bathrooms or other work areas, or administrative projects.

Regularly attend all staff meetings, training, informational and education sessions.

Protect BORN AND RAISED and guests by adhering to sanitation, safety and alcoholic beverage control policies.

Contribute to BORN AND RAISED success by welcoming relevant, different and new requests; ideas and opinions for improving operations and service; helping others with assigned duties; and willingness to work towards meeting and exceeding established revenue goals.

Keep and maintain a clean walk in cooler and organize all kegs on proper order.
