Under immediate direction, the Groundskeeper landscapes and maintains grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment. The employee typically performs a variety of manual tasks to include any combination of sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, and sprinkler systems.
1. Cares for establishing lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, trimming trees, and cultivating, trimming and edging around flower beds, walks and walls.
2. Mixes and sprays or spreads fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides onto grass, shrubs and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
3. Mows and edges lawns, using power mowers, weed eaters and edgers.
4. Plants seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees and shrubs and apply mulch for protection using gardening tools.
5. Attaches wires from planted trees to support stakes.
6. Decorates gardens with stone and plants.
7. Follows planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass or plant flowers and foliage.
8. Collects and empties litter barrels; gathers and removes litter on a regular basis.
9. Collects debris from areas, cleans drains, gutters and ditches.
10. Hauls or spread topsoil.
11. Maintains irrigation systems including winterizing the systems and starting them up in spring and manually watering grass, trees and shrubs.
12. Performs janitorial work to include sweeping, mopping, emptying wastebaskets and cleaning litter from facilities.
13. Performs specialized departmental duties.
14. Assists on other assignments when requested.
15. Performs light construction work such as labor needed to setting forms, minor repairs to buildings, and maintaining comfort structures.
Minimum Requirements
1. An accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
2. One (1) year of work experience is preferred.
3. Job requires a valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
4. Must use good judgment and exercise safety procedures.
5. Must be able to learn uses, repair and maintenance of tools.
6. Must be able to learn chemical properties of supplies, how to use and detect and avoid chemical dangers and how to dispose of chemical supplies.
7. Must maintain a responsible demeanor and a helpful manner.
1. Job requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
2. Exposure to heat, cold, noise, vibration, and dusty environments.

2. This position may include working evening and/or weekend hours or during emergencies and natural disasters.
3. This position has no supervisory responsibilities over others.
4. This position requires the employee to work a flexible schedule of six days per work week, including weekends and holidays.
