Objective
Working cooperatively with the Refugee Health Promotion (RHP) program team, the Health Educator teaches health literacy and cultural education sessions to eligible refugee clients to promote healthy lifestyles, wellness, and a healthy environment.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent; a minimum of two years of successful training experience; an awareness of and familiarity with a variety of cultures. Health-related certification preferred.
Responsibilities
The Health Educator will have the following responsibilities, with additional duties being added as need arises:
· Train/teach health education classes on various health topics to eligible refugee populations with the goal of increasing health literacy and empowerment.
· Engage in curriculum development, lesson planning and instructional delivery for health education programs that help individuals, families, and communities maintain healthy lifestyles.
· Collaborate with health specialists/community stakeholders to determine needs and set goals.
· Use a variety of student groupings and make sure that most activities are student-centered.
· Address individual learning styles and learning differences and employ learning strategies that encourage students to assess their own progress.
· Promote success for all students by enabling the students to feel empowered to make informed health decisions.
· Engage in continued professional development in the areas of health education trends, cultural content, and current methodology and attend in-service training workshops.
· Maintain accurate records of attendance, student progress and participation, assessments, and other course documents.
· Collect samples of students’ work (including name and date) to demonstrate knowledge.
· Collect and analyze data to learn about a particular community to improve programs and services.
· Demonstrate effective classroom management and promote a supportive learning environment.
· Maintain current and effective usage of the technological components provided by BEI. These include, but are not limited to Office 365, ClientTrack, and publisher provided supplements, etc.
· Provide support in other areas related to the RHP program or RSS services, as assigned.

I have reliable transportation, a valid Texas driver's license, and valid vehicle insurance. • Must have own transportation to conduct job-related travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS • Work is carried out in a controlled, agreeable environment as generally represented by normal office conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability to lift twenty pounds; stooping, climbing, and bending are required.
