The City of Chetopa is hiring a full-time police officer. Chetopa is located in Labette County Kansas and The position requires a self-motivated individual with the ability to work with surrounding agencies. Certified officers will be given preference, however basic academy (KLETC) will be provided for the right individual. The city’s benefits package including KPERS retirement, paid vacation/sick leave, Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Kansas as well as a supplemental insurance policy and paid holidays. Responsibilities
- Deter crimes and assure community through high-visibility policing
- Patrol assigned areas and monitor activities to protect people/property
- Investigate crimes and apprehend suspected law violators
- Observe and respond to various situations or emergencies
- Follow rules, guidelines and protocols
- Conduct initial investigations
- Gather evidence and ensure successful prosecutions
- Produce internal reports and provide feedback on case status
- Deal with case paperwork and administrative procedures
- Foster good public relationships and liaise with community groups or individuals
- Coordinate operations with other emergency services
- Attend and provide evidence in court
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 of years of age
- No felony convictions or domestic violence convictions
- Responsibility, dependability, honesty and integrity
- Adequate interpersonal and communication skills
- Familiarity with various computer software programs
- Ability to build effective working relationships
- Sound judgement along with effective decision making skills
- Conflict resolutions and problem solving skills
- Willing to submit to extensive medical, psychological and criminal background checks
- Valid driving license
- Highschool diploma or equivalent
Work schedule requires weekend, holiday, overtime, and court appearances. Officers work 12 hour shifts with every other weekend off. The City of Chetopa provides 24 hr. coverage.
Salary will be based on experience. Lateral applications are encouraged and hourly wage is negotiable. The department also pays a shift differential for overnight shifts.
