POSITION SUMMARY
The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of United American Indian Involvement, Inc.'s (UAII's) employees, clients, visitors, and property. The Security Guard will be tasked with patrolling designated areas, responding to safety and security threats, and establishing a security presence. The incumbent will be trained on all site-specific policies and procedures relevant to their position and be expected to provide excellent customer service and assist in emergency response situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome visitors sign them in, and direct them to the front office for check-in
- Monitor parking to ensure employees, clients and visitors are parked in their designated spaces
- Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property, and access points throughout the day
- Communicate regularly with receptionist and admin staff regarding special events or visits that might impact parking or require a heightened level of security
- Assume overall responsibility for the safety and security of designated areas
- Identify potential security risks and respond accordingly
- Complete incident reports and documentation needed for all security incidents
- Ensure all employees and visitors have proper credentials for accessing buildings (ID badges and passes)
- Respond to emergencies and incidents within designated areas promptly and according to policy
- Assist employees and visitors with any concerns they might have
- Escalate emergencies to law enforcement as needed
- Be alert to your surrounding at all times
- Monitor alarms and security cameras
- Write up incident reports and daily reports of ongoing at the building
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSQualifications:
- Working knowledge of basic security techniques
- Proven ability to react appropriately in stressful situations
- Proven ability to deescalate situations that might arise
- Able and willing to work with culturally diverse populations
- Sensitive and/or knowledgeable about the needs of the American Indian community/culture
Education &
Experience:
- High School Diploma, GED, or a minimum of three years of experience working as a Security Guard
- At least three years of work experience as a Security Guard or similar role
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position
Certifications:
- Guard Registration Card from the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services
- Tear Gas/Self Defense Certification (a plus)
Confidentiality:
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPAA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures.
- This position has access to sensitive information, and a breach of confidentiality will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination
Communication/ Interpersonal Skills:
- Possess the ability to communicate with others in a courteous and professional manner
- Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively and professionally
- Ability to write daily reports effectively in English
Technology Skills:
- Demonstrable experience using a two-way radio such as a walkie-talkie
- Ability to navigate iPad to monitor cameras
Other:
- Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed
POSITION PREFERENCES
- Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (Public Law 93-638).
- Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.
- Trained in First Aid/CPR

Physical Demands:The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the primary functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of a security guard, the employee is required to sit, twist, talk, and hear. Talking and hearing are essential for communicating with staff and visitors. The employee must be comfortable kneeling, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision.
