Job Summary:
This position is located at our facility in Plymouth, Michigan.
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment. They responsible for diagnosing mechanical problems, repairing and rebuilding equipment on or offsite. The Diesel Mechanic must provide their own tools.
**Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment drug screen.**
Essential duties and responsibilities include, however are not limited to:
-Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
-Diagnose mechanical problems, repair and rebuild equipment.
-Diagnose problems and repair brakes, transmissions, rear-ends, clutches, diesel engines, and electrical problems.
-Perform all aspects of truck and trailer repairs.
-Remove, clean, repair, reinstall and adjust all truck and trailer components.
-Weld equipment as needed.
-Prepare and complete work orders on equipment repair.
-Maintain completed paperwork on equipment.
-Make service calls offsite as needed.
-Work closely with other mechanic technicians and advise them on repairs.
-Evaluate completed work and conduct final inspection of equipment prior to release to ensure compliance with federal and state code regulations.
-Receive, accept and distribute all deliveries appropriately.
-Responsible for opening and closing the maintenance garage.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, diesel engine problems.
-Must have valid driver's license.
-Experience working on tractor trailers.
-Basic welding skills (Mig, Oxy/Acl).
-Ability to understand type and nature of essential job functions.
-Ability to understand and adhere to all safety procedures and precautions.
-Ability to do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
-Intermediate knowledge of computers/laptop.
-Intermediate knowledge of hand tools/power tools.
-Ability to travel to offsite locations for repair.
-Ability to be on call.
-Must be able to use battery and charging system test equipment.
Physical Requirements:
-Able to lift and carry up to 80 lbs.
-Welding/fabrication experience required.
-Ability to sit, stand, slouch or lie for extended periods of time.
-Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and heavy equipment.
-Ability to hold air impact tools up to 30 lbs.
Training/Education:
-High School Diploma or GED preferred
-Auto Mechanic
-Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic
-Class A CDL a plus
-ASE Certifications a plus
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
