OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: The Patient Access Emergency Department Lead oversees the daily operations of the Emergency Department Patient Access Team. The lead partners closely with the Emergency Department Manager to provide leadership coverage and presence to the registration staff in the Emergency Department. This individual is responsible for ensuring the effective operations through organizing, scheduling, and monitoring department workloads. In addition, will monitor quality and productivity metrics and coordinates training as needed. The lead will review policies and procedures and look for creative process improvements as well as assist with the implementation of these improvements. The lead will serve as the first line of escalation for staff questions on workflows and go-to resource for staff. This position is customer service-driven and the applicant must have the ability to effectively promote an exceptional patient experience while working in a stressful environment. The Lead will be an integral part to the hiring process for new team members, team building, and workplace culture formation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Obtain and verify accurate patient demographic and financial information; communicate the purpose for all required patient documents for ED.
- Ensures patient receives necessary Medicare/Medicaid disclosures, MSP verification and privacy information, including, but not limited to, education regarding the Charity policy and the hospital’s billing procedures.
- Arrive and register patients in the Emergency Department
- Arrive and admit direct admits transferred from other hospitals
- Admit patients from the ED to the hospital
- Provides coverage to cover sick calls as needed
- Provides excellent customer service by identifying customer needs and fulfilling customer expectations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Possess a solid understanding of health insurance and financial assistance.
- Demonstrated self-starter with a history of increasing responsibility and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
LEAD RESPONSIBILITES:
- Oversees the daily operation of the Emergency Department Patient Access Team.
- Serves as mentor to Emergency Department Patient Access and a resource for the organization’s Patient Access Team regarding the Emergency Department.
- Assists with ongoing training updates for existing staff.
- Responsible for staff department schedules and fielding sick calls, looking for sick coverage.
- Responsible for assisting Emergency Department Manager with quality improvement measures.
- Reviews policies and procedures to find areas of improvement and assists with implementation of new processes.
- Assists Emergency Department Manager with hiring and training new team members.
- Oversees compliance and reporting for Emergency Department Patient Access. Effectively communicate with the ED team, including healthcare members and patient access members
- Assists the Emergency Department Manager with developing positive staff culture and creating a workplace where team members can thrive.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: AA degree or three years of professional experience in a medical office or related healthcare field.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Good working conditions. Clean, well-lighted, air conditioned or heated area
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work effectively with visitors, patients, and staff. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Sit for long periods at a time, bend, walks, or stoop intermittently. Lift up to 15 lbs. Must be able to work on several projects simultaneously and handle frequent interruptions.

Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.
