SUMMARY OF ROLE
The Cost Accountant will be detailed oriented, organized, and excited about managing manufacturing cost and standards for improving business processes. This role will be responsible for the overall financial management of inventory for the company which involves the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracking costs back to underlying activities. Responsibilities will involve defining and maintaining the standard costing system, meeting deadlines for processing information, answering questions and financial reporting requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintaining the cost accounting standards as defined in company cost accounting policy.
- Implement procedures and tasks that drive compliance with cost accounting policy for all manufacturing sites.
- Drive costing system to identify issues and gaps in that are fixed daily to maintain costing integrity.
- Finance signoff on new and updated Bills of Materials ensuring proper setup is flowing through a resulting proper standard cost.
- Develop monthly/quarterly/annual standard cost updates and ensure that changes are controlled and updated as needed.
- Manage the Westfall cycle count process.
- Establish and implement the Labor and Overhead rates used in standard costing.
- Facilitate cost accounting policy updates as appropriate for approval through operations and corporate accounting.
- Plans, studies, and collects data to determine costs of business activity, such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor and analyze the impact of those costs on the operational entity.
- Analyzes changes in cycle, scrap, product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effects on costs and implement appropriate changes to Bills of Materials.
- Support capital request analysis where cost-benefit analyses and process improvements related to inventory costing is incorporated in the ROI.
- Analyzes the effects of changes in materials, methods, or equipment in the overall productivity.
- Support site finance teams in the month end process related to inventory standard cost analysis related to monthly activities.
- Main contact for financial audits for all requests related to company cost accounting policy, process and procedures.
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS Degree (Accounting or Finance) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of cost accounting experience preferred.
- Highly analytical with cost-efficiency at the forefront.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting and manufacturing cost accounting principles and a thorough understanding of GAAP.
- Experience with IQMS Standard Costing Methodology a plus.
- Strong inter-personal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment with competing priorities.
- Highly responsible, self-motivated and able to thrive in an energetic, fast-paced, creative environment. Possess excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal).
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to meet agreed upon deadlines.
