Albright College is seeking applications for Controller and Associate Vice President. This position provides leadership and direction in administering the various accounting functions that support the development, analysis and reporting of both internal and external financial operating statements of the College as well as the financial reporting to various organizations, governmental agencies for regulatory or compliance purposes and to a variety of foundations and individuals for fiduciary stewardship. Key Knowledge, Experience and Leadership Skills for Success as Controller and AVP:
- Accounting degree, with GAAP experience in preparing financial statements (F/S),
- GL account reconciliations, journal entries, GL closings and account and F/S analysis,
- Best practices in using accounting software and systems to support timely and reliable F/S,
- Recruiting, training and advancement of high-performing accounting team members,
- Operational unit revenue and expense analysis,
- Ability to summarize and explain financial information, both internally and externally,
- Effective and proactive collaboration with fellow senior leadership team members,
- Composure and consistency in communications across all members of the College.
Essential Job Functions:
- Oversee the daily operations including, but not limited to, cash management, accounts payable, cashier/bursar, receivables, payroll and all other responsibilities of the accounting team.
- Ensure that specialized reports are timely and accurately prepared in the exercise of the institution’s fiduciary relationship.
- Prepare timely periodic financial statements at both the organization and component unit levels.
- Manage the annual budget process (both Capital and Operational) and provide timely management reports to various functional units.
- Provide assistance to the Interim CFO and Interim President for the annual maintenance and update of the College’s long-range financial projection.
- Provide leadership and organizational skills necessary to manage and improve the accounting software system.
- Provide support of the Student Accounts and Financial Aid offices, in their management of advising students on the financing of educational costs.
- Maintain, update and improve the internal control mechanisms.
- Develop and/or update financial policies and procedures.
- Enforcement of established financial policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the management of the annual audit and prepare both internal and external financial statements.
- Provide cross coverage to other staff members as necessary.
- Other value-added duties to advance the College.
Qualifications/Prerequisites:
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable interacting with all functional levels both inside as well as outside the College.
- Must be comfortable communicating the College’s governing body

- Possess dynamic leadership, creativity, and vision that would support the continuing development of the Office of Controller.
- Demonstrate strong administrative, management, interpersonal, and problems solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and not-for-profit accounting and reporting.
- Strong computer literacy with Microsoft products, ERP systems, and other financial systems.
- High degree of confidentiality.
- Possess knowledge of the rules and regulations related to the business and finance aspects of managing the College.
- Higher Education experience preferred but comparable experience will be accepted.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required with a minimum of seven years’ experience of progressively responsible experience (toward a Controllership role).
- Master’s degree optional but demonstrated experience in the ability to both prepare and analyze financial statements through the audit engagement in lieu of master’s degree.
LICENSES
- CPA or CMA preferred, but not required.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record required.
