HJF is seeking a Low-Field MRI Physicist to develop and conduct basic, applied, pre-clinical, and clinical research projects ultimately directed toward advancing applications of low-field MRI to image sequelae of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of physical principles, concepts and mathematical models to potential inventions, products, and problems. Develops new technologies and protocols for various low-field MRI platforms, including prototype scanner development, preclinical and clinical imaging applications.
This position will be in support of the Military Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative (MTBI2). MTBI2 is a federal military traumatic brain injury (TBI) research program organized as a partnership between the Uniformed Services University (USUHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). MTBI2 supports a wide range of research from pre-clinical models to investigational projects and clinical trials research on TBI and its comorbidities. HJF parovides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to MTBI2.

We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
Responsibilities:
- Processes and interprets experimental MRI and physiological data. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.

Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.

Coordinates and contributes to new grant and funding applications.

Contributes to satisfying reporting requirements to MTBI2, USUHS, HJF, DHA, NIH, etc.

Trains and supervises laboratory staff e.g., technicians, as needed.

Prepares written reports, abstracts, and manuscripts for submission to scientific conferences and journals.

Prepares employee invention reports (EIR).

May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role
Qualifications:
Education and Experience

Doctorate Degree required in areas such as physics, biomedical engineering, imaging sciences, neuroradiology.

Minimum of 2-5 years experience as a post-doctoral fellow required. Commercial experience working for an MRI scanner company may suffice. MD/PhD with 5 years post-doctoral training may also qualify.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques, particularly in areas of MR physics, MRI pulse sequence programming, biophysical measurements using low-field MR methods,
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
- Ability to work independently and supervise others.

Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check
Supervisory Responsibilities

Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Physical Capabilities

Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs, such as one-sided MR magnets.

Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
Work Environment

This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
Note: This work site requires that Non-US Citizen incumbents have lived in the US three out of the past five years.
