General Definition of Work
Socrates Academy is a K—12 charter school with a focus on partial Greek immersion and the Socratic method, whose classroom teachers must possess strong teaching abilities, an understanding of pedagogy and instructional practices in elementary and or middle grades education, and an enthusiasm for connecting learning to real life application. The Socrates Academy classroom teacher reports to the school leadership team and works closely with his/her grade level team. Teachers should be energetic and progressive minded, with a willingness to work collaboratively with grade level and vertical teams.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Team planning of unit lessons and grade level curriculum by implementing board approved curriculum and materials
● Strong understanding and implementation of Common Core and North Carolina Standard Course of Study
● Ability to implement accommodations within the learning environment according to 504 plans, IEPs, ELL plans, Emergency Action Plans, etc.
● Complete all intervention paperwork as needed
● Student data analysis
● Classroom management, utilizing a school wide positive behavior support model
● Ability to motivate students by following the principles of the mission statement that include, but are not limited to rigor, critical thinking and problem solving
● Active supervision of students at all times while on campus; constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students
● Use of technology in the classroom including a mobile computer lab to enhance student learning
● Differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each learner
● Continual professional development to keep up-to-date on curriculum developments and trends in the field of education
● Commitment to participation in professional learning communities (PLCs), discussing data and how to meet the needs of students
● Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships that support student learning as outlined in the Socrates Academy Mission Statement
● Dependable and prompt
All teachers are expected to read and uphold the expectations as outlined in the Socrates Academy Staff Handbook and the North Carolina Teaching Code of Ethics. The failure or unwillingness of a teacher to comply with the professional standards of conduct and performance listed herein may result in contract non-renewal or disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from employment. In all matters concerning a teacher's compliance with the expectations of Socrates Academy, consideration shall be given to the impact on the education of a student or group of students and on the overall educational environment of the school.
