District Council 37 (DC37) is a labor union that services approximately 120,000 city employees and retirees. The Personal Service Unit (PSU) is a Member Assistance Program within DC37’s Health and Security Plan. PSU provides a wide range of social services including short and long term mental health counseling, referrals, advocacy, and collaboration both inside and outside the organization. District Council 37 has a number of resources to help union members cope with a variety of life stressors. In addition to PSU, DC37 provides its members' with health insurance benefits, legal services and Union Representatives that advocate for members' rights. Social Workers in the Personal Service Unit are dedicated to the emotional well-being, personal growth, and work-life balance of our members.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs counseling, crisis intervention and provides social service information and referrals to public and private community agencies. Knowledge of group counseling and program development helpful.
EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL TASKS:
1. Conducts initial assessments and provides referrals, as needed.
2. Performs short-term individual and group counseling.
3. Facilitates crisis groups and program overviews in the field or virtually.
4. Works on special projects.
5. Provides advocacy and outreach to the community.
6. May provide task supervision to graduate social work interns and/or paraprofessional staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. MSW degree, along with LMSW license
2. Experience in the following areas helpful:
- Alcoholism and chemical dependency
- Crisis intervention
- Experience in World of Work setting
- Group work
- Information and referral experience
- Knowledge of community services
- Program development
- Work with disabled adults
Ability to work with co-workers in a professional and non-confrontational manner.
