This position will work dayshift to cover absences, vacations or peak times not to exceed 29 hours a week. Acts as a courier between the Pharmacy Department and Nursing Units; delivering medication, supplies, devices and picking up orders. Fills medication orders/reorders for residents, and refills medication supply from fill list which is audited by a pharmacist for accuracy. Performs proper charges and credits for medications, supplies and devices. Restocks, organizes and inventories medications and supplies throughout the facility. Ensures medications are stored properly and checks expiration dates. Enters medication orders and resident information to update the resident medication profile computer database. Ensures all required information for new admissions. Prepares and packages medication. Maintains log for repackaging medications. Maintains STAT box and emergency box medications. Reviews, sorts, and files a variety of materials, including confidential information. Maintains departmental records, files, notebooks and references. Handles departmental mail and correspondence. Greets visitors and receives incoming telephone calls, screening them and making appropriate referrals to staff or departments. Performs other duties as may be assigned that are within the Pharmacy department’s mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility. Nursing Unit and Med cart inspections. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
High School Diploma or equivalent. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is preferred. Virginia Pharmacy Technician registration is required. Long-term care experience preferred. Clerical and computer experience.
