Summary
Reporting to the Consumer Lending Supervisor, this full-time, non-exempt hourly role assists Consumer Lending and branch staff with consumer loans. The Consumer Loan Underwriter underwrites consumer loans via the phone, internet, or in the branch. They will work directly with the Supervisor/Manager to take a proactive role in assisting lending staff with lending issues, concerns or questions as well as the distribution of internet applications and emails to Consumer Lending staff. This individual will follow Credit Union policies and procedures while underwriting consumer loan applications for loan decisions and consult with Supervisor/Manager when necessary.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Underwrite consumer loans in a manner consistent with established Credit Union policies and procedures. Work directly with the Supervisor/Manager and observe how and when to intervene with department staff and branch staff to assist them with lending issues, concerns, or questions.
- Understand and facilitate lending policies of the Credit Union and works closely with Supervisor/Manager to implement the policies and procedures.
- Maintain member loan files and supporting loan documents according to established policies and procedures.
- Conduct audits of loan documents.
- Support the department goals with staff development and training when needed.
- Cooperate and work together as a team with coworkers, demonstrate a positive professional demeanor at all times, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Practice confidentiality where indicated in member/employee matters and Credit Union operations.
- Keep up to date with new lending guidelines and procedures.
- Provide back up when necessary to the phone queue in the department.
- Discuss loan decisions with members or staff.
Qualifications and Certifications
- A high school education or GED required.
- Associates Degree preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of similar or related experience preferred.
