Marine Engineer
Position Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To serve as marine engineer for Vagabond Cruise fleet and other vessels as directed by the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Discharge the duties of marine engineer including but not limited to the following:
Maintain all vessels in a safe and conscientious manner in accordance with all requirements of the USCG CFR 46 Subchapter T, good marine practice, general seamanship, and Company policy.
Insure all vessels are properly maintained and ready for service every day.
Conduct all routine maintenance and repairs on engines, gears, drivetrain, electronic controls, hydraulics, steering, seals, pumps, and motors, waste and sewage systems, plumbing and piping, HVAC systems, AC and DC electrical systems and batteries, audio and PA systems,
Minimize vessel down time due to failure.
Be available twenty-four hours a day seven days a week for emergencies.
Work to build a well trained, and motivated crew with good morale and a great vibe.
Create an atmosphere in which excellent passenger service is the highest priority.
Maintain a professional appearance and bearing at all times while on watch.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all routine engine, systems, and vessel maintenance requirements.
Identify and perform non-routine repairs as required per company policy.
Maintain spare parts to minimize vessel down time per company policy.
Keep shop, engineering, and storage areas clean and well organized
Train mates and deckhands in the maintenance of vessels.
Be present and manage all USCG vessel inspections.
Be present and manage all repair or service work conducted by outside vendors or contractors.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and train mates and deckhands in execution of maintenance and vessel condition duties. COLLABORATIVE RESPONSIBITIES:
Work with the Captains to identify maintenance or other items and issues.
Work with the Mate and Deckhand to enhance vessel safety and security.
Work with the Mate & Deckhand to enhance the service to and enjoyment of our passengers.
Work with Marine Operations Manager to identify, prioritize and complete maintenance as needed.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilize Company assets and resources in a manner that minimizes expenses and maximizes profits.
Accurately record expenses and purchases for materials, parts, and outside contractors.
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to Owner or Marine Operations Manager.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Must be able to demonstrate extensive experience in vessel repair and maintenance. This is a hands on position where the successful candidate will be aboard all vessels everyday personally performing all maintenance and repair and compliance duties. Experience and knowledge must include at a minimum, diesel engine trouble shooting and repair, drivetrain including seals, shafts, propellers, and bearings, AC and DC electrical systems, pumps, motors, and hydraulic systems, plumbing, sewage and waste systems, HVAC systems, paint and coatings systems preparation and application processes, fiberglass repair, welding and metal fabrication practices, electrolysis, and corrosion control.
Experience aboard USCG inspected passenger vessels(CFR 46 Subchapter T) helpful.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and consent to participate in the Vagabond Cruise random drug-screening program.
Within thirty days of employment must obtain a certification in Red Cross CPR/First Aid.
Must posses a valid sate issued driver’s license and reliable transportation.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
This is an underway position requiring physical agility, strength, and the ability to work outside, on deck, in the elements regardless of the weather.
Smoking is not permitted aboard any company vessels, in any company buildings, and within the resort/marina area.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Starting Salary $75,000.00. Full time employees may participate in company sponsored health insurance plan and company sponsored 401K plan. Paid time off available after one year of service.
