POSITION SUMMARY
Second Harvest Food Bank’s (SHFB) Senior Programs Coordinator is responsible for the relationship development, coordination, implementation, oversight, compliance, and evaluation of Second Harvest Food Bank’s programming serving seniors throughout our South Louisiana service area. Under the supervision of the Chief Impact Officer, the Senior Programs Coordinator is integral to the implementation of several of Second Harvest’s key programs to address food insecurity among seniors and provide them with the food and meals they need to be healthy, happy, and thriving.
A key program the Senior Programs Coordinator will oversee is the USDA’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) – a federal program administered by the Louisiana Department of Health to serve low-income seniors. This program is operated by Second Harvest in partnership with Feeding Louisiana and dozens of partners across the region. As such, the Senior Programs Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all related activities comply with state and federal guidelines, and the required monthly reporting is conducted in a thorough and timely manner.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
General:
- Manages the development, planning, coordination, implementation, oversight, compliance, and evaluation of Second Harvest’s Senior Programs, including the CSFP, senior meals program, and Groceries to Geaux.
- Develops, cultivates, and maintains positive relationships with community partners to support Second Harvest’s outreach and recruitment efforts for senior programming.
- Serves as a primary contact for all partnerships related to senior programming across the region.
- Collaborates with several departments across the organization for the successful implementation of Second Harvest’s Senior Programs, including the Operations and Kitchen Teams (more details to follow), as well as the Development team in managing all grant-funded programming and activities and Marketing and Communications team in developing outreach materials, information handouts, etc.
- Track output and activities by program, partner, and parish, and submit information to Impact Administrative Manager on a monthly basis for accurate Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting.
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP):
- Maintain knowledge of current state and federal CSFP policies and procedures. Stay abreast of changes.
- Build, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with current and potential community organizations, including local Councils on Aging, senior living facilities, partner food pantries, etc., to distribute monthly CSFP boxes to seniors across our communities. Hold an equity lens, ensuring partners expand across our service area and reach underserved areas and pockets of high need.
- Create and coordinate with the larger Impact Team to execute an outreach strategy to increase awareness about CSFP, eligibility requirements, access to services, etc.
- Work with Operations and Inventory Control team to ensure CSFP product is received, handled to ensure accurate inventory levels, and product is distributed in an appropriate manner.
- Coordinate with Volunteer Services Teams to build CSFP boxes for a caseload of 22,000+ seniors each month across our service area.
- Work with the Operations team to manage partner delivery schedules and troubleshoot as needed.
- Create and maintain client waitlist. Work with partners to increase the number of seniors on the waitlist.
- Achieve 95-100% caseload utilization month-over-month, by actively rotating clients from the waitlist to enrollment in the program.
- Proactively address barriers that may preclude a senior from participating in the program.
- Ensure all enrolled seniors are active in the CSFP digital client intake system, and all information is up-to-date, including contact information and visit history.
- Coordinate with Community Nutrition Team to provide nutrition education for seniors in each box distributed, as well as Neighbor Services Team to provide outreach materials for SNAP application assistance and referrals to other life-saving services.
- Provide necessary training to all CSFP partners on an annual/as-needed basis, including Agency Express ordering system, digital client intake system, civil rights, food safety, etc.
- Ensure program compliance through regular monitoring site visits and follow up as needed.
- Prepare and complete monthly reports and documentation as required, including number of seniors served, detailed outreach and nutrition education activities, etc.
Senior Meals:
- Build, cultivate, and maintain relationships with partnering Councils on Aging for respective Meals on Wheels Programs, as well as other relevant senior meal partners.
- Serve as the liaison between senior meal partners and Community Kitchen Team, coordinating partner need and feedback, kitchen logistics, etc.
- Provides administrative support for senior meals, including: assisting with training sites on food safety protocols and daily reporting; monitoring daily meal reporting and adjusting daily meal projections, as needed; communicating effectively with the kitchen logistics teams to ensure the community kitchen has all relevant information to supply partners with meals properly; conduct regularly scheduled monitoring of sites to ensure proper protocols are being met and to correct out-of-protocol behaviors; provide support to site coordinators and staff to ensure successful programming.
Groceries to Geaux:
- Create and execute outreach strategy to enroll qualified seniors in the Groceries to Geaux senior home delivery program. Build and cultivate relationships with community partners to conduct outreach and enhance services.
- Accurately manage and track product in inventory control system. Work with the procurement team to order product for the program when needed.
- Coordinate individual senior orders via Order Ahead, ensuring seniors have the appropriate account information, training, and support to request monthly box delivery through the Groceries to Geaux Program.
- Collaborate with Volunteer Services to engage volunteers across the community to conduct home deliveries to seniors. Work with DoorDash to set up delivery services for all other home deliveries.
- Craft and implement a strategy to expand Groceries to Geaux in rural parishes.
- Ensure program goals and objectives are met in a timely manner.
Other:

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Based at Second Harvest’s facility in New Orleans, this position requires both in-office work, as well as work in the field. Willingness to drive throughout the 11-parish region is required.
- The position sometimes requires hours outside of the traditional workday, including evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

- Experience in training and supervision of volunteers.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office environment (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and standard office equipment.
- Reliable transportation and valid DL and insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree from a college or university in Social Work or related field.
