What YOU will do:
You will report directly to the IT Manager in the Hope Hull Manufacturing Center of Excellence and be responsible for implementing activities of technology projects relating to enterprise level networking and communications systems ensuring goals are accomplished for Miltope Corporation. May be assigned a trainer role within the scope of authority.
Essential Functions (To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)
- Provides network engineering solutions for Firewalls (F/W), WAN/LAN, WIFI and other network infrastructure.
- Supports and administers F/W, network routing, switching, architecture and bandwidth utilization.
- Recommend, design, and maintain network architecture and infrastructure.
· Assist in the definition of security requirements, architecture, design, development, and evaluation of networks.
· Assist in the development of policies and procedures, make recommendations to promote and support an effective information security program.
· Support hosting solutions for on-premise and cloud applications to meet mission objectives.
· Assist in the review of technical security assessments, identifying and mitigating areas of vulnerability.
- Ensures all applicable IT equipment is current with the latest security updates. Performs security issue/incident review and remediation.
· Requires an understanding of, and experience with, deployments of various systems to the cloud (e.g., Azure), networking, VPNs, IaaS, PaaS, SQL, storage, Azure AD, etc.
- Consults with management and reviews project and task proposals to determine goals, time frame and procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of resources.
· Serves on advisory, quality, or safety committees as a representative of the Information Technology department as requested.
· Serve as project manager for network implementations, security upgrades, or quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists in the formulation and definition of technical scope and objectives of tasks.
- Analyze and recommend cloud infrastructure requirements.
- Identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones and required tasks.
· Participates in the assignment of work tasks, stand-by schedules and local training and requirements.
- Works with management to establish standards and procedures for personnel and modifies schedule and plans.
- Performs repairs on hardware, software and coordinates with vendors, departments, and management.
- Recommend network backup and recovery procedures.
- Performs diagnostics, isolation, and corrective action to resolve network outages.
· Supports communication (e.g., VOIP) systems and requirements.
- Performs fiber optic and copper wiring design, review, and oversight.
- Performs design, review, execution in upgrading hardware and software of network devices.
- Monitors and reports on network performance and submit recommended improvements.
- Coordinates circuit actions/long-haul communication.
- Prepares status reports, metrics and keeps management, clients, and others informed of status.
- Assist team members in the resolution of technical issues.
- Configures and maintains network equipment in accordance with established practices and guidelines, including existing constraints and directives.
· Maintains accurate records of all diagrams, maintenance, inventory, and security measures associated with the networks.
· Responsible for interfacing with the customer about technical issues.
- Responsible for using the trouble ticket system to input, update, and track restoral actions for customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with functional and mission requirements.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: Virtual equipment, desktop, laptop, network equipment, servers, wireless devices, and telephone. Uses network test, measurement, and diagnostic tools. Hand tools, ladders and power tool use required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
1. Working environment will be 90% indoor, some travel may be required.
2. The individual must also be willing to perform stand-by/after hours and weekend work.
3. Remote work eligible upon management authorization.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: The individual must be able to lift 40 lbs. unassisted, heavier items assisted, and have correct color vision. The individual must be able to reside at a desk troubleshooting network related issues for extended periods of time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in an associated Information Technology discipline is preferred.
Licenses or Certifications Desired:
1. Valid State driver’s license required.
2. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
3. Palo Alto Networks Certified Security Administrator (PCNSA).
4. Security certifications (e.g., COMPTIA Security+, CASP, etc.).
5. Cloud certification (AWS Certified Architect, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or equivalent Azure certifications).
Experience: Ten (10) years’ experience with Information Technology networking solutions. Two (2) years of experience in related field may be substituted for each year of college.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Individual will assist in the management and accountability of shop material, bench stock, office supplies, tools and test equipment. Identify items needed for sustaining daily operations. Identify budgetary items for short- and long-term needs.
Basic Qualifications (The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required and preferred for this position.)
- Extensive knowledge in TCP/IP, network segmentation, routing and switching (subnetting, VLANS, STP, EIGRP, OSPF).
- Extensive knowledge in wireless technology and RF promulgation (802.11).
- Extensive knowledge in Firewall administration (e.g., Palo Alto).
- Extensive knowledge of perimeter networking (BGP).
- Extensive knowledge in DHCP and OSI layers.
- Extensive knowledge in network management software (e.g., OP Manager, SolarWinds).
- Extensive knowledge of unified communications (Cisco VOIP).
· Proficient knowledge of security across various platforms (e.g., wired/wireless networks, operating systems, mobile devices, and cloud networks)
- Proficient knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, TIA, etc.).
· Proficient in trouble ticket tracking systems.
· Excellent data, oral and written communication, and people skills.
· Desire to learn and keep current on the latest technological advances within the IT industry.
· Ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance
