POSITION SUMMARY
The Driver Trainer will be accountable for the ongoing training of Harlow’s School Bus Drivers insuring the drivers are trained by the standards set forth by Harlow’s as well as Federal, State and local government entities while having the ability to obtain a good relationship with drivers, managers and other employees of Harlow’s.
This position will also be expected to solicit and accept feedback from team members with the offsite operations leadership team to continuously improve ongoing customer service, work processes and safety as well as the responsibility of observing, reporting and correcting safety concerns.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Safety Training
- Ensure that all Harlow’s safety practices and procedures are being followed
- Assist Transportation Manager in whatever manner needed to have successful completion of all training needs
- Test potential new hires and fellow team members as required
- Make certain that driver logs are completed and turned in timely
- Will perform ride-a-longs in order to ensure safe driving practices as well as positive student interaction
- Will conduct remedial training in the event of an accident(s), incident(s), injury or general concern(s) require such action
- Provide written assessment of training
Productivity
- Communicate, advise, and suggest to Operations/Leadership any safety and productivity improvements
- Communicate with the operations staff on a regular basis to see that business needs are being satisfied
- Will train on all aspects of the job to include time sheets, accident/injury reporting, stop arm violations, and proper completion of DVIR
- Assist in ensuring all Harlow’s core values, customer safe practices, and company procedures are being met
- Will perform all job related functions deemed necessary by leadership including routes and activity trips
- Understand the requirements of your shift, able to dispatch effectively when needed
Maintenance
- Perform daily pre-trip / post-trip inspections on assigned equipment
- Ensure that driver maintenance records are updated daily
- Assist in maintaining accurate parts and tool inventories
- Assist in making minor repairs to equipment
- Will assist maintenance in ensuring annual as well as regular inspection intervals are completed in a timely manner
- Will assist in maintaining records of scheduled maintenance inspections
Additional Accountabilities
- Assist in cleanliness of the facility and assets
- Communicate any and all process improvements for improved performance and productivity
- Enthusiastically participate and lead by example in Driver and/or Associate team meetings
Specific Responsibilities:
- Check pre-trip and post-trips documentation is being completed properly
- Assistance to drivers
- Communicating with dispatchers & leadership knowing needs of the business
- Help support and ensure Harlow’s safety policies are being followed
- Support and communicate with leadership
- Assist in handling accidents/incidents (taking pictures, documenting, contacting leadership and helping get the situation under control)
- Assist in facilitating regular training sessions as well as developing lesson plans and training topics
- Attend training recommended by leadership
- Willingness to become certified to instruct classes such as but not limited to First Aid/CPR, defensive driving etc.
- Perform other task as assigned by leadership
