SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center operates a nonprofit hospital, outpatient clinics, and residential facilities in the city of Los Angeles.The Controller is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the Finance and Business team, including the development, interpretation, coordination, and administration of the hospitals policies on finance, medical billing, internal control, and auditing. He/she will be responsible for the financial reporting, budgeting, audits, cash flow, capital assets, bond compliance, and taxes for the hospital. The Controller is expected to account for and report on Federal, State and Local Government grants and contracts, as well as contributions and grants from private donors. The Controller is in charge of the Finance Department and Business Office.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES:

Serve as a resource to Senior Management and Operations Directors on the agency’s financial performance.

Assist Sr. Controller with direct general accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
- Guide Budget Office/FP&A team to ensure revenue recognition and matching principle are followed. Ensure GAAP compliance and data accuracy and integrity.

Assist CFO with cash flow projection, project weekly and quarterly cash requirements in accordance with strategic initiatives. Ensure proper management and reconciliations of bank accounts, accounts payable and check disbursement activities, property tax matters, loans and lease payments, insurance payments, rental property billing and collection activities, and payroll tax matters.

Assist Sr. Controller with the month-end and year-end close; understand HCAI guidance and make sure hospital’s cost allocation statistics and calculations are accurate.

Monitor agencywide and departmental financial performance, conduct monthly Budget vs Actual meetings with the Program.

Assist CFO with the Board Reports.
- Manage and ensure compliance with local, state, federal government, and funding source reporting requirements and tax filings.

Establish strong business partnerships with functional teams and be seen as the company's technical expert in accounting matters.

Recommend organizational structure and staffing requirements; recruit and develop staff to support current and strategic corporate requirements.

Be responsible for assisting in the development of departmental goals and objectives aligned with the strategic plan.

Assist in the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts.

Complete special projects or assignments as required.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and recommend effective solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram from and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Prefer demonstrated success as Controller for at least 2 years.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting is a must. Master’s degree in Business, Finance or Accounting is desired.

CPA with nonprofit experience preferred.

Hands-on experience in managing all accounting and financial aspects of a growing $50 million + business.

Strong background in financial management, fund/NFP accounting and government accounting.
- Blackbaud Financial Edge/Raiser’s Edge experience is a plus.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Self-motivated and self-directed.
-
Extremely detail-oriented, with well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
REQUIREMENTS:

Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
-
Valid California Driver’s license.
-
TB clearance.
-
Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.

Fire and Safety Training*.

Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI)**

Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.

**Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by onboarding. Staff need to be certified at a commensurate level for their role to perform their job duties (staff will be taken off the schedule if certification is not achieved).
