This job requires military service with a contract as a commissioned officer in the Air Force Reserve. The application is for a specific position within the Air Force Reserve.
Position Summary
Like civilians, it’s essential our Airmen have access to the best legal services possible. Under the supervision of Judge Advocate Generals, Paralegal specialists provide legal services to their clients and work in a wide range of legal practices. These include everything from research and interviews to processing cases and discovery management to ensuring justice is upheld for their clients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and make recommendations for the Staff Judge Advocate.
- Interview clients and determine eligibility for legal assistance.
- Manage and perform legal functions within statutory guidelines and the Air Force Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Develop and maintain legal assistance materials and resources for clients.

Qualifications
This is an active-duty position as an Air Force Reserve officer. To be considered, you must meet the following requirements:
For Direct Accessions:
- High school diploma, GED, or an associate or higher education in lieu of high school diploma or GED
- ASVAB requirements: General AQE score of at least 51
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; speak clearly and distinctly
- Ability to keyboard at a minimum rate of 25 words per minute
- No significant record of emotional instability, personality disorder or other unresolved mental health concerns that may impair of the paralegal duty function or risk the mission
- No record of substance abuse, domestic violence or child abuse
- No convictions by court-martial
- No convictions by a civilian court, except for minor traffic violations and similar infractions
- Paralegal Applicant Fact Sheet and Writing Sample
- Tier 3 Investigation (National Agency Check, Local Agency Checks and Credit) in accordance with DoDM 5200.02 and AFMAN 16-1405
- Completion of 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 39
For Retraining:
- High school diploma, GED, or an associate or higher education in lieu of high school diploma or GED
- Have a current passing fitness score.
- Have an AF Form 422 with a PULHES of at least 333333 and a medical recommendation.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; speak clearly and distinctly
- Ability to keyboard at a minimum rate of 25 words per minute
- No significant record of emotional instability, personality disorder or other unresolved mental health concerns that may impair the paralegal duty function or risk the mission
- No record of substance abuse, domestic violence or child abuse
- No convictions by court-martial
- No convictions by a civilian court, except for minor traffic violations and similar infractions
- Tier 3 Investigation (National Agency Check, Local Agency Checks and Credit) in accordance with DoDM 5200.02 and AFMAN 16-1405
- Must be interviewed by and complete a 10-day observation period with the wing legal office
- Must have a signed recommendation from the wing legal office Staff Judge Advocate and Law Office Superintendent, and 5J MFM or CFM approval
