The Lead Communications Project Manager is part of the AAMC's Communications and Marketing team, which leads efforts to educate the public about the missions of academic medicine. The team develops and implements the association’s communications strategy and messaging, serves as the steward of the AAMC’s brand and reputation, and provides services and support to AAMC staff. The Lead Communications Project Manager works with different teams across the Communications and Marketing cluster and with other units across the organization, managing communications project delivery and execution. The Lead Communications Project Manager builds and maintains working relationships with other AAMC departments involved in the projects and external suppliers and partners. The Lead Communications Project Manager utilizes specialized depth and breadth of expertise in project management with experience with Digital projects.

Project Management, Scheduling, Resourcing
Oversees a portfolio of projects
Executes highly complex or specialized projects
Creates/manages multiple small, moderate-sized and large-sized project plans and timelines
Takes projects from original concept through final implementation/project closeout
Identifies dependencies and connections across multiple projects
Ensures project sponsors and project team are kept informed on project status and activities, as appropriate
Consults/reviews deliverables to confirm alignment across projects
Identifies enterprise risks and issues within the project and escalates those to applicable parties
Makes decisions on the project deliverables and project plans
Defines project scope and objectives.
Develops detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.
Monitors project execution to identify obstacles and deviations from plan and takes corrective action as needed.
Conducts project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis.
Recommends and takes action to direct the analysis and solutions of problems.
Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables.
Project Request Intake and Requirements Gathering
Engages requestors and collaborators in thoughtful intake and discovery process to yield useful information.
Oversees project request intake and ticket triage through workflow ticket system
Serves as trusted partner to internal work units, supporting solutions to project management and operations challenges. Understand the motivations and goals of cluster partners
Thinks and manages work with the “big picture” of organizational and communications goals in mind
Looks for creative solutions that satisfy the business needs and align with AAMC communications strategy, digital platforms, and best practices.
Provides decision options for requestors and communications project team
Project Management Best Practices
Evaluates project management tools and workflows
Optimizes project management processes, templates, and operations.
Assists with development and implementation of a project prioritization framework
What you'll bring to the role
Bachelor's Degree
8 years of project management experience in both non-profit and agency environments
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or successful completion of a recognized project management curriculum is desired.
Strong project management and oral/written communications skills
Positive, enthusiastic attitude with great teamwork and interpersonal skills, reflecting the ability to interact with cross-functional groups
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a high level of trust and confidence with internal business partners
Clear understanding of digital technologies that support large scale websites
Experience using Project/Portfolio Management tools such as Monday.com and Trello
Remote Work Eligibility
This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US
Compensation Grade Range and Mid-Point
Grade Range:$93,500.00 - $173,700.00/ Grade Mid-Point:$133,600.00
The above annual compensation range and mid-point are general guidelines. For candidates who meet the criteria, the AAMC's compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.
If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
