Mechanic needed to assist with maintenance and repair on vans and ramps for logistics company in a railyard. This position will be responsible for four regional sites and will require regular travel between sites. The rail yard facilities are located in Detroit (Jefferson North Assembly Plant), Flat Rock, Melvindale and Sterling Heights MI. The Operations Mechanic performs preventative maintenance and assists with the repair of a variety of diesel powered equipment and vehicles. The position has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the automotive maintenance and repair field. This position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and a certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. The Operations Mechanic works under general supervision of the terminal management team. The normal schedule for role this is day shift Monday through Friday, however some weekends or other shift work may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair services on vehicles, loading ramps and other equipment as recommended by manufacturer.
- Maintain written and computerized repair orders to include labor hours, parts used and general comments.
- Complete written PM inspection forms as needed
- Operate vehicles in yard conditions, move fleet equipment safely around yard and into and out of facility.
- Log in and out of repair orders in a computerized shop management system to include, Cause, and Correction for each repair.
- Operate basic shop tools to include; welders, torches, impact wrenches, scaffolding, ladders and other equipment as assigned.
- Work safely within the guidance of the company’s work rules and safety guidance.
Requirements:
- Must provide your own hand tools, a company work truck will be provided.
- Minimum of 1 year of mechanical experience including welding and hydraulic experience
- High School diploma or equivalent certification
- Must have valid Driver’s License
- Must be able work outside in all weather conditions
- Must possess necessary skills to operate and interpret diagnostic equipment
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work shift work/weekend as required, perform all mechanical tasks, and demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge and ability to work with computerized systems is strongly preferred.
- Must be able to effectively communicate within the customers’ environment.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential responsibilities of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or chemicals, and outside weather conditions including wet, extreme heat and cold conditions. The associate must traverse surface areas that are uneven, such as pavement with cracks/pot holes, wet or slick areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
