Ohio Gastroenterology Group is the leading provider of general advanced GI procedures with several state-of-the-art facilities throughout Central Ohio. We employ a talented team of specialists who perform more GI procedures each year than any other practice in our area.
We currently have a full-time opening for a Pathology Lab Tech 2 position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Job Functions:
- Prepare human tissue for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist.
- Perform technical skills that may include accessioning, grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, special staining, and coverslipping.
- Ensure proper specimen handling and specimen transfer.
- Package slides for review by a Pathologist.
- File, retrieve, and distribute blocks, slides, and pathology reports.
- Responsible for maintaining lab equipment and QC/QM documents.
- Perform lab tasks that aide in the day to day operation of lab.
- Inform supervisor when lab supplies are getting low.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe environment according to the proper regulations.
Secondary Job Functions:
- Act as a leader and mentor to other laboratory personnel.
- Act as a liaison and resource between lab, centers, and pathology group in regards to patient specimens.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, Safety, OSHA and state regulations.
- Any other tasks as requested by the pathologist, physician & human resource manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of tissue processing principles and functionality of processing instruments.
- In depth knowledge of the principles of embedding, cutting, staining & the functionality of related instruments.
- Ability to work within a strict deadline (works well under pressure).
- Ability to perform detailed & accurate work.
- Good communication skills, both in writing & speaking.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including telephone communications, office systems, and record keeping.
- Knowledge of modern business communication, including style and format of letters, memoranda, minutes, and reports.
- Skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with little supervision.
- Ability to handle and resolve problems.
- Fluent in English.
- Ability to maintain a neat appearance and professional demeanor.
Credentials and Experience
- Associate degree or higher (with a minimum of 60 semester hours and 24 semester hours in chemistry and biology) in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or in medical technology - preferred
- May have completed a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the NAACLS or the ABHES, or other organization approved by HHS - preferred
- HT or HTL, ASCP certification (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) - preferred
- At least 3 years’ experience working in the medical field (office, clinical, or hospital) - preferred
