Position Title: Director of Next Gen Ministry Classification: Non-Exempt
Department: Church Office Reports to: Lead Pastor
Salary Range: $28 per hour to $40 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
Purpose of Next Generation Ministry:
San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church (SRVUMC) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual who has the experience, desire, vision and competency to develop and direct programs for young children and youth. The Next Generation Ministry Director shall seek to foster a strong education program through building relationships with ministry chairs, teachers, students, parents (including the PTA) and church leaders that strengthen the students’ commitment to the church and growth in their faith in and love for Jesus Christ. This includes responsibilities for weekly Sunday School programming and special events as well as being a trusted source for spiritual (Bible study, prayer, fellowship, worship), relational (community service and evangelism), organizational and administrative leadership.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and faith development to the children’s and youth ministry members and their families.
- Create environments, activities and obtain curriculum and supplies for each age group that facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth, including the development of a children’s worship experience.
- Seek to recruit, train, and supervise teachers, leaders and other volunteers to assist in the Sunday School classroom and related events on a rotating or agreed upon schedule.
- Encourage and support all volunteers including planning and fellowship.
- Maintain strategy for outreach, recruiting and assimilating new children, youth and families.
- Assist in the development of children’s and youth ministry goals in conjunction with the Leadership Team.
- Develop evaluations to measure effectiveness of children’s and youth ministry programs in meeting church’s goals.
- Submit budgetary recommendations to the Leadership Team and manage budgets for children’s and youth ministries.
- Maintain church’s child and youth protection policy within all Next Generation ministry programs.
- Collaborate with the Lead Pastor to work on special assignments as needed.
- Communicate and publish all activities through newsletters, bulletins, church calendar and social media as relevant.
- Become well-versed in the church's purpose, mission and ministry vision.
- Encourage and coordinate outreach opportunities, seasonal/ summer programs (VBS), fellowship for children, youth and their families as appropriate.
- Coordination of common purpose and strategy with Preschool Superintendent, to include attendance at preschool chapel, monthly meetings, and commission meetings
- Demonstrate experience in navigating health and safety protocol in a changing, post pandemic recovery environment.
- Coordinate with Director of Music Ministry to ensure involvement in music ministry.
- Pastoral care to families, children and youth (with Pastor, Stephen’s Ministry, etc.).
Qualifications:
- Vital relationship with Jesus Christ.
- College graduate with some seminary education or training in Christian education preferred.
- Teachable, servant’s heart. Passion to be in community and relationship with youth, children and their families, challenging their spiritual growth.
- Spiritual maturity and high degree of moral and ethical conduct.
- Ability to inspire children, youth and team members of all ages.
- Friendly, enthusiastic, and flexible team approach while working with children, youth, parents and staff members.
- Spiritual gifts include, but are not limited to strong organizational leadership, teaching, administration and technology skills; able to navigate different types of medium for families participating remotely and leveraging tools for alternative means of instruction.
- Spirit of inclusivity; ability to prepare and implement lesson plans, programs and activities and potentially adjust instruction to accommodate different student needs.
- Experience in working with children in a church setting – either as staff or volunteer.
Working Conditions:
- Position is part time and hourly.
- Weekly Sunday attendance is required.
- Requirement to follow an established schedule in terms of hours and days of work. May require flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Actual number of hours during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Schedule may vary at different times of the year.
- Occasional time off available upon request and advance notice to Lead Pastor. It is expected that the chosen candidate will notify the Next Generation Ministry Leaders prior to any absence from regularly scheduled hours, events or duties and arrange a substitute plan and leader.
- Participate in opportunities for periodic/ annual review, goal setting alongside Lead Pastor.
