Meta Tech Industries is a Precision Machine Shop. MTI makes parts for the Space, Oil and Defense industries. We are looking for an experienced Quality Manager to help grow our quality department. The ideal candidate will have a background in precision machining operations and will be a critical thinker who will proactively improve the quality systems of the company through internal audits, participation in process improvement programs, and interaction with key partners to obtain constructive feedback.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that inspectors are accurately checking parts.
- Ensure that inspectors are competent and provide trainings when needed
- Analyze inspections to ensure they are being done efficiently and develop plans for upcoming inspections
- Example: If the CMM has extra time and the manual inspectors are backed up, have the cmm check as many manual dimensions as possible to speed up the department.
- Ensure that first article inspections are being performed in a timely manner
- Work with plant manager to perform in process inspections of parts that the machinists are running
- Work with plant manager to determine which inspections are a higher priority.
- Interface with customer engineers to communicate issues, get clarifications, and submit deviation requests
- Work with CMM operator to troubleshoot difficult parts
- Manage calibration log and ensure that QC equipment is properly calibrated
- Review upcoming jobs and ensure that calibrated gages are in place to check threads
- Review upcoming jobs to create dimension logs and bubble drawings.
- Manage QC employees. This includes the following
- Doing performance reviews
- Giving them feedback on areas that need improvement
- QC manager will have ultimate responsibility for the performance of their department. If a member of the team is not performing after feedback and further training, they need to identify this and get them replaced. Being responsible for hiring and firing members of their team.
- Delegate QC responsibilities to the appropriate members of the team and make sure the responsibilities are being handled appropriately.
- Record and track internal and external NCRs
- Manage and update QMS
- Perform internal and external quality audits and compile detailed reports of findings
- Build a strong team through coaching, mentoring, specific training and performance evaluations.
- BE A STRONG LEADER AND MENTOR/COACH THE TEAM TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Qualifications
- Must have expert Metrology skills
- Expert level understanding of ASME Y14.5
- Experience managing a QC department and supervising others.
- Knowlege of ISO and AS9100
- Basic understanding of operating a CMM.
- Familiar with lean/six sigma principles such as 5S, 5 why, fishbone, etc.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to communicate clearly via written and oral communication.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
