The Community Service Society (CSS) has worked with and for New Yorkers since 1843 to promote economic opportunity and champion an equitable city and state. We work with a broad coalition of New Yorkers—from community members, activists, and volunteers to government officials, civic leaders, and grassroots organizations—to fight for what matters most, especially to those facing economic insecurity or racial injustice. For over twenty years, we have sought to better understand the views and experiences of low-income New Yorkers through our scientific survey, The Unheard Third. We use the insights gleaned from our annual survey to elevate the concerns of low-income New Yorkers in the public policy debate and to better inform our services and advocacy agenda.
