The staff nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate nursing care for specific patients and families, including delegation to and supervision of non-professional and support staff. The staff nurse, as primary nurse, is responsible and accountable for the overall nursing care management of a designated group of patients. She/he collaborates with the primary physician, members of the patient care team, support staff and nurse manager to achieve optimal patient outcomes. She/he also collaborates with the patient toward efficient and effective personnel and unit management. This position is a 20hr, 7am-5:30pm, requires rotating weekends & holidays
Major responsibilities:
- Primary nursing care in the ambulatory setting of women and men experiencing reproductive challenges.
- In depth coordination of patient care beginning with new diagnosis through infertility therapy and early pregnancy care / pregnancy loss / inability to conceive.
- Management of care for patients undergoing ovulation induction, in vitro fertilization, oocyte donation, egg freezing, sperm analysis testing, male therapies to improve fertility.
- Functions in the role of perioperative nurse caring for patients undergoing oocyte retrieval, embryo transfer, and other gynecological procedures.
- Support physician in clinical session
- Support 3rd party services
- Review lab work and procedural results
RN demonstrates the following:
- Contribute collegially to a multidisciplinary team including Reproductive Endocrinology and Urology physicians, embryology and andrology staff, certified fertility assistants, administrative support staff, social worker, and other health care team members to achieve best possible patient outcome.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Possess clinical expertise in operative nursing in the ambulatory procedural area. Skills including pre, intra and post op assessment and care of patients undergoing egg retrievals, embryo transfers, testicular sperm aspiration, per cutaneous sperm aspiration, dilatation and curettage, and other gynecologic procedures.
- Display excellent telephone skills that express competent and compassionate nursing care.
- Must demonstrate an understanding of nonjudgmental care as it relates to the psychological and emotional needs of this specific patient population.
- Provide extensive patient education with regards to the female and male reproductive system, therapies, medications, detailed timing of medication administration, etc.
- Displays solid interpersonal skills including active listening and empathy to meet the needs of this unique patient population.
- Current Massachusetts RN licensure
- Experience in Reproductive Endocrine, IVF, Gynecology, Ambulatory Nursing, or Obstetrics preferred.
- BSN preferred.
- No new grads at this time
