Job Description

As the Director, Quality at OMW you will uphold our manufacturing company’s commitment to world-class product quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction. The Director position engages in proactive leadership, cross-departmental collaboration, and requires a deep understanding of quality assurance and production system processes. The Director, Quality must possess a comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and quality tools and have an unrelenting drive to enable OMW’s success.
The Director, Quality plays an instrumental role in upholding OMW’s commitment to quality. The Director drives initiatives that ensure product conformity and reduce defects and helps implement production-focused systems that optimize operational efficiency. The position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
OMW’s Director, Quality needs excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Director, Quality must be a proactive communicator who enjoys being hands-on. The Director, Quality must fully understand customer requirements and have a sense of responsibility towards our potential and existing customers. The role requires adaptability, flexibility, and an agile mindset to manage competing priorities, support a broad range of business functions, and keep up with the fast pace of our team as we pursue meeting our customers’ needs. As a Director your goal is to support the organization in delivering good products on time all while continuing to improve. The Director, Quality plays a key role in supporting the sustainable growth and scalability of the organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Continuously maintain OMW’s safety, cultural, and professional standards.
- Promote, encourage, and reinforce a positive safety culture, safe practices, and safe work environment for all employees.
- Manage all aspects of OMW’s Documentation, Product Validation, and Quality Engineering teams.
- Establish and manage comprehensive quality assurance and quality control frameworks.
- Promote, improve, and manage OMW’s AS9100/ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Ensure robust product validation processes and methodologies are consistently applied.
- Incorporate best practices and regular reviews to continuously enhance product quality.
- Lead OMW’s Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with manufacturing leaders to implement and optimize production-focused systems to maximize efficiency.
- Spearhead the identification, documentation, and resolution of product defects.
- Coordinate with the relevant departments for effective corrective actions.
- Produce detailed quality metrics reports and analyses for review by senior management, including analysis of customer scorecard data.
- Communicate findings and insights to manufacturing and executive leadership.
- Guide, mentor, and foster excellence within the Documentation, Product Validation, and Quality Engineering teams.
- Advocate for a culture of meticulousness and ongoing professional development.
- Forge strong ties with manufacturing, planning, and other key departments to maintain quality throughout the manufacturing cycle.
- Work with suppliers to ensure their materials and processes align with our quality expectations.
- Lead and facilitate training on quality standards, tools, and methods for both the Quality teams and the wider organization.
- Identify product quality risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Report to the Chief Operating Officer on:
o Overall quality ratings, trends, and metrics.
o Progress and results from ongoing process improvement initiatives.
o Detailed analysis of identified defects and implemented corrective actions.
o Budgetary needs and utilization related to the Quality department.
o Feedback and insights from inter-departmental collaborations.
o Supplier quality evaluations and associated challenges.
o Outcomes of training initiatives and areas of focus for future training.
o Identified risks and proposed strategies for risk mitigation.
- Other duties as required.
Note that this position may on occasion require work outside of normal business hours to support company needs. Occasional long hours may be required.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Business Administration, or a relevant field.
- More than eight years of related work experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong proficiency in reading and understanding various technical documents such as blueprints, material specifications sheets, etc.
- A deep technical and practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and standards and quality management systems.
- Proficiency in continuous improvement methodologies and tools, including root cause analysis, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, LEAN Manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc.
- An ability to lead projects, help develop strategy, drive cross-functional team accountability, and deliver results.
- A passion for continuous improvement and a patience to shepherd ideas from initial requirements through execution.
- A willingness to roll up your sleeves and step into unknown situations to understand the current state and most optimal path forward.
- Be a voice of reason for reliability and ensure that product reliability risks are considered within the manufacturing process.
- Build relationships with cross-functional groups to identify, prioritize, and close any reliability or process gaps.
- An ability to lead groups in creating and refining ideas or solutions to problems, communicating the benefits of change, and keeping related projects on track.
- Knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001 standards.
- Experience using an ERP/MRP system.
- Experience in providing excellent customer service.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
