Lighthouse Commodities, LLC (LHC) has been providing professional merchandising to farmers since 2015, equipping them with the same tools and resources the rest of the grain supply chain utilizes. To date we’ve marketed over 160 million bushels of farmer-client grain and evolved to include our own introducing futures brokerage, analytics department, proprietary algorithms, freight brokerage, automated trading systems and numerous other improvements. Position Overview
The Chief Risk Officer is a new role for LHC and it involves assuming critical responsibilities previously handled by LHC founders. This role will lead the analysis, design and implementation of hedging activities for LHC and its clients; will focus on business development, will contribute to cash trading strategy and execution; will manage Beacon Pricing pool programs and will have professional merchandising relationships with a small group of strategic farm clients. This role has extremely high-income potential and will include the opportunity for ownership in LHC.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead internal discussions that determine LHC’s overall market view and develop hedging recommendations while closely monitoring and analyzing key fundamental, seasonal and technical indicators.
- Prioritize development of new business opportunities and strategic partnerships that leverage LHC’s unique abilities and market position.
- Manage all aspects of professional merchandising for a small group of strategic LHC clients. This includes developing marketing plans, recommending and executing hedges, recommending and executing cash trades and monitoring logistics, all while regularly communicating with clients.
- Develop strategy, monitor market conditions, execute necessary hedges and prepare communications associated with Beacon Pricing pool programs.
- Help as needed with all other aspects of managing LHC’s farm marketing, trading and logistics activities.

- Deep understanding of factors that impact grain markets and tools that can be used to manage those risks
- Ability to analyze grain P&L components and evaluate capital projects
- Knowledge of futures, spread, basis and logistics risks associated with grain positions across a wide region
- Ability to communicate about LHC and/or its risk positioning with a variety of different stakeholders
- Ability to analyze and manage data with high accuracy
- Strong analytical and relational skills
- Ability to work independently, in a high stress environment and effectively manage multiple priorities and tasks
Work schedule will primarily be normal daytime business hours, Monday through Friday, with additional hours required as needed.
Travel
This position will require infrequent travel to offsite events or meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, ag economics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and direct work experience
- 3 years of experience merchandising cash grain
- Series 3 license or ability to obtain one
- Understanding of cash grain trading, futures & options, and risk management concepts
- Willingness to relocate to Bismarck, ND
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10 plus years of cash grain merchandising experience including P&L responsibility

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $175,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year
