The Quality Control Microbiologist will be responsible for ensuring the microbiological quality and safety of our products. This role involves performing routine microbiological testing, interpreting results, and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microbiology, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Conduct routine microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Perform environmental monitoring of production areas to ensure compliance with GMP and regulatory standards.
- Identify, isolate, and characterize microorganisms using various microbiological techniques.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Document and analyze test results, maintaining accurate and detailed records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the development and validation of new microbiological methods and procedures.
- Investigate and resolve microbiological quality issues, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and research and development, to ensure product quality and compliance.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in microbiological techniques.Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, related field. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.)
- 2+ years of experience in a laboratory, preferably in a chemical or consumer goods manufacturing environment
Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, including aseptic techniques, microbial identification, and environmental monitoring.
- Familiarity with GMP, GLP, and other regulatory standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using laboratory software and equipment.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
- Planning and organization: an ability to plan and manage multiple projects as well as keep documents and files organized.
- Attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness on a consistent basis.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office products - Excel, Word, Outlook and Access. Experience with Epicor ERP preferred but not required.
