Under general supervision, the Systems Engineer I is expected to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of infrastructure systems that support core functions. The SEI provides operational support for authentication, logging, monitoring and alerting; server lifecycle management as well as messaging and collaboration (Microsoft 365), virtualization platform, storage and data protection systems. This person is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all operating systems and infrastructure systems’ performance to identify, resolve and communicate issues. The SEI identifies opportunities to develop and implement small-to-medium scale systems. While the work assignments of the SEI will typically follow existing solutions, this person must be able to recognize and respond to complex and non-routine issues.
The Systems Engineer I reports to the Systems Engineering Manager (Operations Engineering).
Evening and/or weekend work may occasionally be required.
This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
Responsibilities:
Job Duties:

Fulfill day-to-day administration tasks associated with maintaining Windows and/or Linux systems including monitoring and reporting on usage, capacity and availability.

Resolve service requests related to Microsoft 365 messaging and Active Directory administration.

Develop automation to reduce administrative cost for routine or bulk tasks.

Deploy security remediation steps to protect against vulnerabilities identified by the Information Security team.

Work with application owners to schedule maintenance windows and apply Windows and/or Linux system updates.

On a rotating basis, provide 24/7 on-call support for mission critical infrastructure systems.

Respond to incidents and service outages to restore service interruptions in a timely manner.

Control and limit access in compliance with security policies and best practices to maintain system integrity.

Create and maintain current and accurate technical documentation and diagrams.

Follow and offer improvements for departmental processes such as change management, incident management, and problem management.

Participate in infrastructure systems Design Reviews.

Collaborate and participate in the transformation of legacy workflows.

Identify and train in technical area(s) to develop expertise.

Perform or automate planned maintenance after-hours / weekends as required.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field desired; or equivalent work experience.

2+ years of system administrator or engineer experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities; or equivalent work experience.

Advanced skills with server operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows Server or Ubuntu.

PowerShell scripting experience.

Foundational understanding of Microsoft Active Directory and multiple OSes authenticating to AD.

Familiar with network protocols, internet standards and client-server communication.

Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $84,448 to $126,651, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
