Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists in preparation of Endoscopy room
- Assists in and accompanies patients before, during endoscopy/minor surgery procedures
- Performs routine treatment procedures including enemas
- Assist RN in minor surgery procedures
- Provides general care such as positioning patients; lifting and turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; ambulating the patient; pre-procedure and post-procedure care
- Take and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure
- Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by cleaning equipment and preparing for disinfection or sterilization, reporting equipment that is out of order, reporting other problems to Charge Nurse, appropriate handling of clean and dirty
- Attends in-service education programs, as assigned, to learn new treatments, procedures, developmental skills, etc.
- Practices careful, efficient and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen
- Carries out delegated patient care activities, such as assistance with personal hygiene, ensures patient comfort and safety and follows through with patient requests
- Cleans equipment after patient use or discharge. All activities are carried out using appropriate Infection Control methods, according to hospital policies and procedures
Working Conditions:
- Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to the risk of blood and bloodborne diseases, infectious/communicable diseases, chemicals, fumes/order. Exposed to unpleasant elements
- Functions effectively under stressful situations
Addendum to assigned unit:
- Cleans and disinfects the scope after the physician has completed the procedure
- Cleans and prepares the procedure room between procedures
- Assist sedated patients to the bathroom
- Carries contaminated instruments to central supply
- Assist patients to their car per wheelchair
- Reports any equipment malfunction, patient complaint or physician complaint to Unit Director
- Terminally cleans each procedure room at the end of the day
- Performs Dry and Wet Leak-test on scopes after each procedure
- Assists physicians with procedures
- Checks for out-dates supplies in the unit
- Changes the glutaraldehyde every 28 days or sooner if indicated from daily glutaraldehyde test strips
- Checks and records temperature of glutaraldehyde daily
- Have a basic knowledge of aseptic technique to set up for minor surgery
- Positions, lift and turns patients
- Checks and records temperature of warmers and refrigerator’s daily
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of procedures and techniques administering simple treatment and related bedside patient care services
- Medical terminology, organizational and technical skills
