Job Summary
- Under the direction of the Same Day/PACU Manager and Director of Operative Services, is responsible for the delivery of patient care within the preop/postop and PACU areas according to the philosophy and objectives of this institution.
- Serves as a member of the surgery team by scheduling and coordinating the flow of patients.
- Ensures all information is collected that is needed from the physician and patients to facilitate the scheduling process.
- Completes Preop patient education by phone; answers patient questions and serves as a resource for scheduling in the operative services department/surgical clinic.
- Performs the primary functions of an R.N. administering preoperative instructions and is cross-trained to the SDS/PACU Unit.
- Meets the established standards of nursing practice.
- Adheres to nursing code of ethics and Avera St. Mary’s Hospital Mission Statements.
Education and/or Experience
- A minimum of 1 year experience in hospital nursing is preferred.
- Participates in educational conferences, and updates and maintains current professional clinical competency related to areas of responsibilities.
- Certification according to American Heart Association Standards in BLS, ACLS and PALS is required within 6 months of employment.
- Attends all mandatory hospital and departmental meetings and in-services.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota.
Work Schedule
- Monday-Friday: day shift, with wknd/hol/call rotation; 80hrs/2wks

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
