Responsibilities: To support English learners district-wide through instruction and program coordination.Essential Functions: Provides individualized and small group English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to English learners.Plans, develops, and implements ESL instruction and Massachusetts English language proficiency standards (WIDA).Provides effective ESL classroom techniques and instruction to enhance second language acquisition and to gain academic language.Demonstrates effective techniques of classroom management, behavioral interventions, and communication to engage students.Demonstrates cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally relevant instructional practices.Collaborates and communicates with ELs content teacher(s) to align instruction and support ELs language acquisition and classroom instructional needs.Assists with the oversight and delivery of Massachusetts state assessments (ACCESS) and administers screening tests for initial identification of ELs.Prepares for and assists with organization of ELs reclassification meetings for monitoring and for those ready to transition out of ESL services.Attends professional English Learner Acquisition meetings as well as serves on building and district committees.Follows the DRRSD ELE Handbook and makes recommendations for revisions as necessary.Understand and comply with the state policies, rules, and regulations regarding ELs.Translates or arranges for the translation of documents as needed.Maintains students confidentiality at all times.Maintains professional attitudes and productive relationships with staff, administration, and students.Performs all other duties as assigned by the assistant superintendent or his/her designee.
