THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI invites applications for a full-time, 9-month web-based appointment at the Instructional Associate or Instructional Full Professor rank. Anticipated appointment date is January 21, 2025. This is a non-tenure track position with a promotional ladder leading to the rank of Instructional Professor (if hired at the rank of Instructional Associate Professor). The standard teaching load is four courses each regular semester, with all classes taught in a fully online, asynchronous web format.
The candidate filling this position will be asked to teach a variety of undergraduate courses including but not limited to: Introduction to Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Learning, Psychopathology, Parenting, and courses in the faculty member’s specialty. Course assignments will be made by the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Department Chair in consultation with the faculty member.
Enrollment in current web classes in the psychology department typically far exceeds the minimum enrollment numbers and has shown substantial growth in the last few years (both during and prior to the pandemic). This position is funded through the Division of Outreach, and its continued funding depends upon student enrollment in online classes. The position has a commitment to Outreach of eight web courses per year; each course must have at least 12 students enrolled for it to “make.” If the faculty member’s four courses do not make in a given semester, the faculty member will be expected to teach a half semester course (e.g., second fall or second spring term) and/or a course during intersession or the summer terms until the 8-ourse obligation is fulfilled. If the faculty member fails to meet the annual 8-course requirement, the position will be terminated, per Outreach’s policies.
The Psychology Department consists of 24 full-time faculty members and over 60 graduate students. Graduate programs include the APA-accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology and a doctoral program in Experimental Psychology. The Clinical Psychology program adheres to a scientist-practitioner model of training, with a particular focus on evidence-based approaches. The Experimental Psychology training program focuses on cognitive, developmental, and social psychology. Faculty both within and across programs frequently collaborate on research. Our graduate psychology programs were joint recipients of the 2021 Donald R. Cole Excellence in Promoting Inclusiveness in Graduate Education.
