The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is comprised of skills labs, classrooms, and computer lab. The computer lab is in the process of being reestablished. The Nursing Learning Resource (LRC) labs are utilized throughout the school year for all nursing clinical courses. The LRC labs are utilized for clinical and skill labs in lower division, upper division, and graduate Nursing. In addition, Allied Health Sciences departments also utilizes the LRC lab space.
LRC Instructor provides an environment that promote teaching and learning via technical, clinical, and simulation support. Assist in the coordination of all laboratory functions including simulation, skills laboratory activities and student practice activities. Assume responsibility and provide supervision of students in the laboratory setting. Coordinate laboratory schedules for Undergraduate nursing clinical courses; collaborate with course faculty to coordinate laboratory schedule and equipment needed.
Contribute to the planning, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of the activities within the LRC utilizing their skills, knowledge, and expertise in nursing education and simulation. Maintain the LRC inventory of equipment, manikins, and supplies. Provide remediation and Open lab times to facilitate student learning using visual, auditory, kinetic modes of learning. Maintain the LRC inventory of equipment, manikins, and supplies.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with an active unencumbered District of Columbia Nursing License
- Earned Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited educational institution
- Exhibits professionalism and strong communication skills
- Proven experience as an instructor, teacher, professor, or faculty member within the Higher
- Education setting; or substantial education with minimum of 3 years of full-time clinical Nursing experiences
- Strong commitment to high academic standards, and ability to provide leadership in maintaining and strengthening academic excellence
- Applicants should be flexible in work hours as evenings may occasionally be required
- Ability to push, pull, and lift items with weight of at least 50 pounds
- Be computer literate, able to demonstrate proficiency with various computer applications such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Experience with simulation (low fidelity to high fidelity, virtual simulation, etc.), and have knowledge of Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice
Responsibilities:
This Faculty member:
- Serves as the nursing skills and simulation expert for the program; work with faculty to deliver skills laboratory engagement, and simulation experiences for students and faculty training
- Collaborate with faculty of both Nursing Undergraduate, Graduate, and Allied Health Science Courses to communicate the Dates, times, and best usage of the labs and equipment
- Performs the role of academic adviser to assigned undergraduate nursing students advisees.
- Serves on Department, College, and/or University committees; and attend and participate in meetings and programs
- Provides support and instruction of nursing skills, Open Lab, and/ or Remediation using various teaching, technology, and Simulation techniques
- Demonstrates ability to communicate with vendors and outside stakeholders to provide services, purchases of equipment, uniforms, and supplies
- Communicates with faculty, staff, and students the most updated dress and uniform policies and purchasing guidelines
- Evaluates student performance in meeting course /clinical objectives (Health Assessment, Fundamental Labs, and other clinical courses)
- Demonstrates commitment to gaining and improving knowledge and skills in simulation through participating in Simulation professional development training activities and offerings.
- Implements, run, and debrief scenarios using a variety of simulation products (NLN Simulation scenarios, ATI Real Nurse, SimChart, etc.)
- Provide supervision of students in the laboratory setting, Open labs, Remediation, Clinical Lab Make up sessions, and/ or using the Computer Lab
- Implements best practices in nursing education, collaborate with faculty, evaluate students’ clinical performance, maintain inventory, set up, participate in, and break down scheduled skill labs and simulation clinical learning experiences, and additional duties as needed
- Assists in training other faculty members, staff on the use and maintenance of Laerdal and Gaumard manikins, SAM, task trainers, and other equipment
- Performs other duties related to the position as needed
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience
- Compensation Range – minimum & maximum base compensation, stated as the hourly rate of pay for nonexempt positions and the annual salary for exempt positions – the maximum will be the actual position budget and the minimum will be 10% less the position budget.
