Patient Accounts Representative
Job Summary
The Patient Account Representative is responsible for entering new insurance information, reviewing overdue accounts, addressing payment issues and payment plans with patients/guarantors in a proactive professional manner in order to avoid collections.
Essential Duties
- Handles all incoming calls to the billing office
- Run eligibility verification daily on next day’s schedule
- Review, update, and notate accounts with changes resulting from eligibility verification
- Reviews a report of 90 day overdue accounts on a daily basis and contacts patients regarding payments.
- Reviews patient co-payments with account balances to determine overpayments.
- Approves appointments for patients whose accounts have a status of collections.
- Reviews appointments for patients whose accounts have been turned to an outside collection agency. This may include contacting the collection agency.
- Meets with or takes patient phone calls regarding complaints and billing errors and corrects such errors by making insurance corrections and re-billing the insurance company and/or patient.
- Reviews collection report monthly and sends applicable accounts to an outside collection agency (AAI).
- On a weekly basis run finance services fees for all outstanding accounts over 90 days.
- On a weekly basis run statement report and send out all statements for accounts with balances over $3.00
- Biweekly run past due messaging report and upload report to the POS website.
- On a weekly basis run bad address report from POS and update all applicable accounts
- Post all patient payments, checks, cash and visas
- Research no show letters daily and apply fee to patient accounts.
- Document patient waivers on account daily.
- Review all returned mail, research, and contact patients for updated address information
Additional Duties
- Makes calls to insurance companies regarding benefit and claim questions.
- Assists in coverage of other billing office employees for PTO.
- Any other duties or responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Educational Requirements
- Minimum requirement is a high school diploma or GED.
License or Certificate Requirements
Work Experience Requirements
- Previous medical office experience preferred.
- Previous experience with medical patient management software preferred.

- Must have good computer skills and general knowledge of software programs used in a medical setting.

- Must have general knowledge of office equipment such as a copier, postage machine, fax machine.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit in a chair for 8 hours per day.
Must use proper body mechanics when using a keyboard, lifting and retrieving supplies, charts and equipment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.18 - $32.73 per hour
