The Counselor in Charge (CIC) is responsible for assisting with support of the rehabilitation services within the District Office for Services for the Blind serving consumer in Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg Counties that will require extensive travel. Work involves day-to-date supervision of the following staff: Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors and the Business Service Representative Technician, in which all these positions serve various counties. The Counselor in Charge (CIC) participates in assisting with the planning and development of the rehabilitation program to meet the needs of individuals who are blind, visually impaired, and deafblind within the service area.
The CIC is involved in direct supervision of assigned non-independent counselors and provides consultation and interpretation to those with an independent status. The CIC is responsible for developing NCVIPs with the staff under the supervision of the CIC, for reviewing them, and for doing annual work plan reviews to counselors and other staff under their assignment. The CIC receives technical and administrative guidance from the Area Rehabilitation Supervisor.
Job responsibilities include the following:

Responsible for reviewing and developing performance reviews (NCVIP) with the staff under their supervision.

Physical requirements include some stooping, crouching, reaching standing and walking to get from place to place

Sedentary work and may require lifting occasionally of up to 10 pounds.

Subject to inside environmental conditions and may have to perform operations which include analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing and operating a computer terminal and operation of light office machines i.e. copiers and fax machines.

Master s degree in rehabilitation counseling or counseling from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor;
OR
Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC), and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Requirement: Successful completion of the agency requirements for independent counselor status.
