Day Porter/Maintenance Worker Job Description
Cristo Rey San José Jesuit High School is hiring for a full-time Day Porter/Maintenance Worker whose primary responsibilities is to maintain a safe, clean, and attractive environment for our employees and students. You are responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of the property, typically focused such as lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators,classroom, bathrooms,office, parking areas.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES – ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Completes all other projects or requests as directed.
- Complete work orders and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned using a work order system.
- Maintaining Cleanliness:
- Exterior: Maintain the cleanliness of the school grounds. This involves:
- Picking up litter and debris.
- Emptying outdoor trash cans.
- Sweeping sidewalks and walkways
- Reporting any landscaping issues.
- Van Maintenance:
- Perform basic maintenance tasks on the school's 14 vans, including:
- Checking fluid levels (oil, coolant, etc.)
- Changing air filters and wiper blades (if applicable)
- Identifying minor mechanical issues and reporting them for repair.
- Maintaining a log of van maintenance activities
- Van maintenance for our 14 vans - taking to the shop for an easy in-house repair.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Setting Up and Taking Down:
- Set up and dismantle furniture, equipment, and decorations for school events.
- Security:
- May perform basic security checks on the school property.
- Maintaining the school campus clean all around, classrooms, exterior, and interior of all buildings.
- Serve as a trades expert and apprentice junior facilities workers on methods of repairs.
- Work on and around potentially dangerous equipment/machinery, in potentially dangerous environments.
- Handling hazardous materials, some exposure to high noise levels.
- Maintain all building, recreational and tenant equipment, as assigned.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities (e.g. PM Checklists).
- Some special events support activities.
- Coordinate building operations activities around school schedules.
- Adhere to company and Cal-OSHA safety guidelines and attend regular safety meetings.
- Manage vendors by partnering and effective communication to drive results and resolve issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work independently and in a facilities team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- 1 - 3 years of experience in a facilities role.
- Demonstrable knowledge of and familiarity with a wide array of power and hand tools, hardware and equipment required.
- Demonstrable knowledge of and familiarity with a wide array of building construction types and trades preferred.
- Experience with electrical maintenance including LED lighting, panel schedules, timers and diagnostics.
- Experience with general plumbing maintenance preferred.
- Experience with general lock maintenance preferred.
- Experience managing maintenance at multiple properties preferred.
- Experience with a variety of mechanical machinery preferred.
- Ability to use a computer and ticket system organization.
- Able to adjust doors and door closers.
- Experience and expertise with various HVAC systems preferred.
- Small to medium size project management experience preferred.Competence to assess priorities and successfully manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive manner required.
- Familiarity with Cal-OSHA regulations, Fire Code, and International Building Code.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSRequires handling heavy objects up to 30 pounds and utilizing team lift methods when heavier.Requires good manual dexterity and ability to use a variety of hand- and power-operated tools.Standing or walking for more than six (3-4) hours a day.
SALARY AND COMPENSATION
Range between $22 - $28 per hour.. Full time employees are eligible for the following benefits: medical, dental, vision, and retirement. Employees’ premiums are covered for medical, dental and vision at 100% and dependents at 50% if elected. This position is eligible for enrollment in the group voluntary retirement plan – 403b.
