TriMet in Portland, Oregon is seeking an Associate Inspector to join our Engineering & Construction team!
The Associate Inspector is an entry level position that performs basic inspections and supportive tasks associated with the construction of civil, buildings, bus and light rail projects related to general improvements to TriMet and public right-of-ways. Basic duties include ensuring compliance with TriMet and jurisdictional partners standards, regulations, codes, specifications and contract requirements. Inspects and observes work and material of contractors to verify compliance with contract documents. Complete Daily Inspection Reports and ensure compliance to project safety requirements.
This role requires being in office five (5) days per week.
This is a limited term position that will end on 06/30/2025.
Essential Functions
- Inspect, observe, and monitor construction, work in progress, field testing of construction materials, and materials/equipment delivered to jobsite; document activities in Daily Inspection Reports, photographs, and as-built documentation.
- Verify the contractor's materials and workmanship comply with submittals, certifications, samples, and various governing agency requirements such as "Buy America".
- Be familiar with all submittals relevant to assigned inspection responsibilities.
- Monitor the Contractor's quality activities, as required by the contractor's quality control plan and inspection and testing plan.
- Coordinate and cooperate with consultants/engineers and jurisdictional inspectors.
- Inspect specialty equipment and fabricated construction materials.
- Assist the Construction Manager with inspecting and resolving punchlist items.
- Manage all duties and activities to ensure that all on-site ongoing Contractor activities are adequately inspected.
Position Requirements
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required with a Bachelors Degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field being preferred.
A minimum of one (1) year of total credited experience is required.*
One (1) year of construction related experience through internships or other on the job performance is required.
The following licenses/certificates are required within one (1) year of employment:
ODOT-General Construction Inspector
ODOT-Certified Asphalt concrete Pavement Inspector
ODOT-Certified Drilled Shaft Inspector, ODOT-Certified Traffic Signal Inspector
ODOT-Certified ADA Curb Ramp Inspector
ODOT-Certified Environmental Construction Inspector
ODOT-Certified Bridge Construction Inspector
Or any equivalent combination of training or experience.
*The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".
Selection Criteria
Grade 13, Exempt, Non-Union, Full-Time, Limited Term through 06/30/2025.
Salary Range
Minimum: $75,186.00
Maximum: $112,779.00
Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.
