Job Title: Minister for Pastoral Care
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastor to join our church community. The Pastor will work together with the pastoral staff, Deacons and Stephen Ministers to provide visitation, pastoral care and spiritual support for members and friends of First Presbyterian Church of Allentown (FPCA).
Responsibilities - in coordination with the Lead Pastor and Pastor for Faith Formation:
- Visit and provide pastoral care to members and friends in the hospital
- Provide pastoral care to members and friends who have experienced the death of loves ones or who are otherwise going through challenging seasons in their lives
- Conduct and participate in funerals and memorial services for members and friends
- Respond to requests for emergency assistance
- Oversee pastoral and congregational care for those who are physically unable to attend worship, including home communion
- Serve as staff resource to the Deacons, guiding and training their efforts to care for the congregation
- Serve as staff resource to Stephen Ministers
- Attend staff meetings weekly
- Provide written reports to Session monthly and attend Session at least once annually
- Participate in worship leadership at least monthly
- Participate in the life and work of the Lehigh Presbytery and larger church
- Observe personal Sabbath practices, knowing that self-care allows for the better caring of others. Seek support with other clergy members
- Such other responsibilities as time permits and as assigned by the Lead Pastor
Qualifications:
- Possess a sincere, informed, enthusiastic faith in Jesus Christ and the Christian gospel
- Ordination as a minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church USA, or in a denomination in communion with the PCUSA. Consideration will be taken for other clergy applicants so long as they are willing to practice ministry consistent with the theology and polity of PCUSA and the core values of FPCA
- Ability to motivate, encourage and coach people as a servant leader
- Additional related education or leadership experience preferred
- Completion of training in Stephen Ministry preferred
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Opportunities to preach and officiate at weddings and will be compensated in accordance with the compensation for visiting preachers and wedding officiants
Physical Qualifications:
- Posses sufficient mobility and dexterity to fulfill the responsibilities as outlined
- Access to transportation or use of personal vehicle; valid driver's license and insurance required
- Residence within a 15-mile radius of the church, preferred
Experiential Requirements:
- Two to five years of working in pastoral care, including but not limited to visitation, chaplaincy or counseling
- Completion of Clinical Pastoral Education course or chaplaincy training preferred
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $28,000.00 per year
Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
