Job Duties Include:
- Serves as support to patients and their family members to assure patients have access to all available funding, working with private as well as governmental agencies (i.e., private insurance, HMO/PPO’s, Medicare, obtaining grants, copay cards)
- Prepares patient accounts for Supervisor’s approval
- Determines patients’ ability to pay and secure repayment arrangement with patients while following Beacon’s established polices
- Provides estimates to patients for planned treatments
- Identifies both patient and Beacon expectations and strives to exceed them
- Actively participates in and encourages others to utilize creative and innovative approaches to accomplish tasks
- Demonstrates responsibility for ongoing personal development, professional growth, and continuing education
- Performs duties in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision or direction
- Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames
- Discuss medications, insurance and prior authorization documents with patients.
- Get prior authorization approval from insurance firms/companies.
- Communicates with other facilities for scheduling in a courteous manner
- Coordinates with patient on scheduling for procedures, imaging, and external providers when applicable
- Appeal insurance companies after prior authorization refusals.
- Assess accounts for completeness and accuracy.
- Follow up on missing or incorrect information so patients receive the right reimbursement.
- Document account activity using correct medical and billing codes.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Compassionate and caring bedside manner
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable on phone
- Ability to work extremely well in a group setting
- Ability to interpret billing manuals, insurance and/or other third-party coverage
- Understanding of the third-party review process, payer funding and authorization procedures to ensure payment, and government/state payers, including eligibility factors
- Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology is required
- Understanding on how to prioritize workload and possess ability to meet tight time frames
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, with detail and possess problem-solving and follow-through skills
- Must have ability to concentrate on detail in the middle of other activities
- Interested in ongoing personal development, professional growth, and continuing education a plus
