Triage/ Medical Assistant – Pain Management
Department: Administrative Office
THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT WILL ASSIST IN THE DELIVERY OF PRIMARY HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT BY PERFORMING A VARIETY OF CLINICAL AND CLERICAL DUTIES IN OUR ADMIN OFFICE.
Position Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
· Manages incoming calls from patients with medical related concerns
· Manages triage voicemail consistently to ensure appropriate call back times
· Prioritizes and appropriately escalates triage phone calls based on: Low level, Moderate Level, and High-level criteria
· Schedules patients as appropriate for office visits
· Communicates patient concerns to appropriate person or department
· Ensures follow up for Moderate and High-level concerns are addressed
· Assists with troubleshooting patient calls related post procedure concerns, prescription refills and pharmacy communication (not limited to calling prescriptions into the pharmacy)
· Obtains surgical clearances for patients for ordered procedures
· Obtains medication prior authorizations following provider direction and patient insurance guidelines
· Serves as a patient advocate by facilitating communications between patient and staff and/or outside clinical facilities (ex: hospitals, physician offices laboratories, pharmacies)
· Documents communication between self, the patient and/or staff in a clear concise manner that will allow those reviewing call notes easy interpretation
· As necessary, gathers faxed reports, reviews, and contacts patient for appropriate follow up (immediate office visit (OV) versus routine OV)
· Completes and appropriately documents post procedure follow up phone calls and creates addendums as needed.
Skills Required:
* Knowledge of medical terminology
* Computer Skills required. Working knowledge of Microsoft office, Excel, and EMR’s is a plus
* Interact with customers and co-workers in a professional and friendly manner
* Flexible and adaptable to quick changing environment(s)
* Ability to work as a team player in a professional environment
* Reliability and excellent attendance
*Other tasks assigned by management

Education/Training/Experience:
- High school diploma or a GED
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant School Self-motivated
- Team player
- CPR Certified
- Experience using general office equipment including desktop computer, scanner, Microsoft Office Suite to complete tasks
- Experience in a healthcare setting
